The CLIC structures are designed for operating at X-Band, $2 \pi /3$ traveling wave mode with a loaded 100 MV/m gradient. Mechanical tolerances, at the submicron level, are required to satisfy the RF design constraints and beam dynamics and are reachable using ultra-precision diamond machining. [...]

As part of the effort to qualify CLIC accelerating struc-tures prototypes, new X-band test facilities have been built and commissioned at CERN in the last years. In this context, a number of RF components have been designed and manufactured aiming at stable operation above 50 MW peak power and several kW of average power. [...]

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) beam-based acceleration baseline uses high-gradient travelling wave accelerating structures at a frequency of 12 GHz. In order to prove the performance of these structures at high peak power and short pulse width RF, two klystron-based test facilities have been put in operation in the last years. [...]

Fabrication and testing of a novel S-Band backward travelling wave accelerating structure for proton therapy linacs / Benedetti, Stefano (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Argyropoulos, Theodoros (CERN) ; Blanch Gutiérrez, Cesar (CERN) ; Catalán Lasheras, Nuria (CERN) ; Degiovanni, Alberto (CERN) ; Esperante Pereira, Daniel (Valencia U., IFIC ; CERN) ; Garlaschè, Marco (CERN) ; Giner Navarro, Jorge (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; McMonagle, Gerard (CERN) et al.
Compact and more affordable, facilities for proton therapy are now entering the market of commercial medical accelerators. At CERN, a joint collaboration between CLIC and TERA Foundation led to the design, fabrication and testing of a high gradient accelerating structure prototype, capable of halving the length of state-of-art light ion therapy linacs. Proton beam therapy is an alternative to traditional x-ray radiotherapy utilised especially for paediatric malignancies and radio-resistant tumours; it allows a precise tumour irradiation, but is currently limited by knowledge of the patient density and thus the particle range [1]. Typically X-ray computed tomography (CT) is used for treatment planning but CT scans require conversion from Hounsfield units to estimate the proton stopping power (PSP), which has limited accuracy . We present the design, construction and high-power test of an X-band radio-frequency accelerating structure, built as a prototype for the CERN LInear Collider (CLIC) study. X-band structures have been attracting increasing attention in recent years with applications foreseen in the domains of compact free electron lasers, medical accelerators and as diagnostics for ultra-short (femtosecond) electron bunches (when used in deflecting mode). Beam-based measurements of long-range transverse wakefields in the Compact Linear Collider main-linac accelerating structure / Zha, Hao (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; De Michele, Giovanni (CERN ; PSI, Villigen ; LPHE, Lausanne) ; Solodko, Anastasiya (CERN) ; Wuensch, Walter (CERN) ; Schulte, Daniel (CERN) ; Adli, Erik (SLAC ; Oslo U.) ; Lipkowitz, Nate (SLAC) ; Yocky, Gerald S (SLAC)
The baseline design of CLIC (Compact Linear Collider) uses X-band accelerating structures for its main linacs. In order to maintain beam stability in multibunch operation, long-range transverse wakefields must be suppressed by 2 orders of magnitude between successive bunches, which are separated in time by 0.5 ns. Beam-Based Measurements of Long Range Transverse Wakefields in CLIC Main Linac Accelerating Structure / Zha, Hao (CERN) ; Adli, Erik (Oslo U.) ; De Michele, Giovanni (EPFL-ISIC, Lausanne ; PSI, Villigen) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Lipkowitz, Nate (SLAC) ; Schulte, Daniel (CERN) ; Solodko, Anastasiya (CERN) ; Wuensch, Walter (CERN) ; Yocky, Gerald (SLAC)
The baseline design of CLIC (Compact Linear Collider) uses X-band accelerating structures in the main linac. Every accelerating structure cell has four waveguides, terminated with individual RF loads, to damp the unwanted long-range transverse wakefields, in order to maintain beam stability in multi-bunch operation.
