The present note relies on the recently published conceptual design report of the LHeC and extends the first contribution to the European strategy debate in emphasising the role of the LHeC to complement and complete the high luminosity LHC programme. [...]

A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN: Report on the Physics and Design Concepts for Machine and Detector / Abelleira Fernandez, J.L. (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Adolphsen, C. The physics programme and the design are described of a new collider for particle and nuclear physics, the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), in which a newly built electron beam of 60 GeV, up to possibly 140 GeV, energy collides with the intense hadron beams of the LHC. Compared to HERA, the kinematic range covered is extended by a factor of twenty in the negative four-momentum squared, $Q^2$, and in the inverse Bjorken $x$, while with the design luminosity of $10^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ the LHeC is projected to exceed the integrated HERA luminosity by two orders of magnitude. Diffractive dijet production at HERA / Bruni, A ; Klasen, M ; Krämer, G ; Schatzel, S
We present recent experimental data from the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations at HERA for diffractive dijet production in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) and photoproduction and compare them with next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD predictions using diffractive parton densities. While good agreement is found for DIS, the dijet photoproduction data are overestimated by the NLO theory, showing that factorization breaking occurs at this order. [...]

Electron-positron interactions / Krämer, G (Univ Hamburg, West Germany)
The author introduces the total cross section sigma for e/sup +/e/sup -/ annihilation, discusses some simple models, which predict the asymptotic behaviour of sigma , and relates sigma to the vacuum polarization, which has been measured recently in e/sup +/e/sup -/ to mu /sup +/ mu /sup -/. He explains the kinematics and basic definitions of one-particle distributions and discusses their relation to the corresponding process in inelastic electron scattering. [...]

$D^{0}, D^{+}, D_{s}^{+}$, and $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ Fragmentation Functions from CERN LEP1 / Kniehl, Bernd A ; Krämer, G
We present new sets of nonperturbative fragmentation functions for D^0, D^+, and D_s^+ mesons as well as for Lambda_c^+ baryons, both at leading and next-to-leading order in the MSbar factorization scheme with five massless quark flavors. They are determined by fitting data of e^+e^- annihilation taken by the OPAL Collaboration at CERN LEP1. [...]
