Charge radii of exotic potassium isotopes challenge nuclear theory and the magic character of $N = 32$ / Koszorús, Á. (Leuven U.) ; Yang, X.F. (Peking U., SKLNPT) ; Jiang, W.G. (U. Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge ; Chalmers U. Tech.) ; Novario, S.J. (U. Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge) ; Bai, S.W. (Peking U., SKLNPT) ; Billowes, J. (Manchester U.) ; Binnersley, C.L. (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M.L. (Manchester U.) ; Cocolios, T.E. (Leuven U.) ; Cooper, B.S. (Manchester U.) et al.
Nuclear charge radii are sensitive probes of different aspects of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and the bulk properties of nuclear matter; thus, they provide a stringent test and challenge for nuclear theory. The calcium region has been of particular interest, as experimental evidence has suggested a new magic number at $N = 32$ [1-3], while the unexpectedly large increases in the charge radii [4,5] open new questions about the evolution of nuclear size in neutron-rich systems. Electromagnetic properties of low-lying states in neutron-deficient Hg isotopes: Coulomb excitation of $^{182}$Hg, $^{184}$Hg, $^{186}$Hg and $^{188}$Hg / Wrzosek-Lipska, K (Warsaw U., Heavy Ion Lab ; Leuven U.) ; Rezynkina, K (Leuven U. ; U. Strasbourg) ; Bree, N (Leuven U.) ; Zielińska, M (Warsaw U., Heavy Ion Lab ; IRFU, Saclay) ; Gaffney, L P (Liverpool U. ; Leuven U. ; CERN ; West Scotland U.) ; Petts, A (Liverpool U.) ; Andreyev, A (Leuven U. ; York U., England) ; Bastin, B (Leuven U. ; GANIL) ; Bender, M (Lyon, IPN) ; Blazhev, A (Cologne U.) et al.
The neutron-deficient mercury isotopes serve as a classical example of shape coexistence, whereby at low energy near-degenerate nuclear states characterized by different shapes appear. The electromagnetic structure of even-mass $^{182-188}$ Hg isotopes was studied using safe-energy Coulomb excitation of neutron-deficient mercury beams delivered by the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN. Coulomb excitation of (31)Mg / Seidlitz, M ; Mucher, D ; Reiter, P ; Bildstein, V ; Blazhev, A ; Bree, N ; Bruyneel, B ; Cederkall, J ; Clement, E ; Davinson, T et al. /MINIBALL ; REX-ISOLDE
The ground state properties of 31 Mg indicate a change of nuclear shape at N=19 with a deformed Jπ=1/2+ intruder state as a ground state, implying that 31 Mg is part of the “island of inversion”. The collective properties of excited states were the subject of a Coulomb excitation experiment at REX-ISOLDE, CERN, employing a radioactive 31 Mg beam. [...]

Low-energy Coulomb excitation of $^{96,98}$Sr beams / Clément, E (GANIL ; CERN) ; Zielińska, M (IRFU, Saclay ; Warsaw U., Heavy Ion Lab) ; Péru, S (CEA DAM) ; Goutte, H (IRFU, Saclay) ; Hilaire, S (CEA DAM) ; Görgen, A (Oslo U.) ; Korten, W (IRFU, Saclay) ; Doherty, D T (IRFU, Saclay ; York U., England) ; Bastin, B (GANIL) ; Bauer, C (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) et al.
The structure of neutron-rich $^{96,98}$Sr nuclei was investigated by low-energy safe Coulomb excitation of radioactive beams at the REX-ISOLDE facility, CERN, with the MINIBALL spectrometer. A rich set of transitional and diagonal E2 matrix elements, including those for non-yrast structures, has been extracted from the differential Coulomb-excitation cross sections. [...]

Onset of collectivity in $^{96,98}$Sr studied via Coulomb excitation / Clement, E (GANIL) ; GöRgen, A (Oslo U.) ; Dijon, A (GANIL) ; de France, G (GANIL) ; Bastin, B (GANIL) ; Blazhev, A (Cologne U.) ; Bree, N (KU Leuven, Dept. A rapid onset of quadrupole deformation is known to occur around the neutron number 60 in the neutron-rich Zr and Sr isotopes. This shape change has made the neutron-rich A = 100 region an active area of experimental and theoretical studies for many decades now. [...]

Shape Coexistence in the Neutron-Deficient Even-Even $^{182-188}$Hg Isotopes Studied via Coulomb Excitation / Bree, N (KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Wrzosek-Lipska, K (KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. Coulomb-excitation experiments to study electromagnetic properties of radioactive even-even Hg isotopes were performed with 2.85  MeV/nucleon mercury beams from REX-ISOLDE. Magnitudes and relative signs of the reduced E2 matrix elements that couple the ground state and low-lying excited states in Hg182-188 were extracted. [...]

Despite being a complex many-body system, the atomic nucleus exhibits simple structures for certain ‘magic’ numbers of protons and neutrons. The calcium chain in particular is both unique and puzzling: evidence of doubly magic features are known in 40,48Ca, and recently suggested in two radioactive isotopes, 52,54Ca. [...]

The isotopes Cd122,124,126 were studied in a “safe” Coulomb-excitation experiment at the radioactive ion-beam facility REX-ISOLDE at CERN. The reduced transition probabilities B(E2;0g.s.+→21+) and limits for the quadrupole moments of the first 2+ excited states in the three isotopes were determined. [...]
