Irradiation aging of the CMS Drift Tube muon detector
/ Ferrero, D.D. Redondo ; Abbiendi, G. ; Maestre, J. Alcaraz ; Fernández, A. Álvarez ; González, B. Álvarez ; Amapane, N. ; Bachiller, I. ; Barcala, J.M. ; Barcellan, L. ; Battilana, C. et al.
During the High Luminosity LHC, the Drift Tube chambers installed in the CMS detector need to operate with an integrated dose ten times higher than expected at the LHC due to the increase in integrated luminosity from 300 fb${-1}$ to 3000 fb$^{-1}$. Irradiations have been performed to assess the performance of the detector under such conditions and to characterize the radiation aging of the detector. [...]

Muon detection in electron-positron annihilation for muon collider studies
/ LEMMA Collaboration
The investigation of the energy frontier in physics requires novel concepts for future colliders. The idea of a muon collider is very appealing since it would allow to study particle collisions at up to tens of TeV energy, while offering a cleaner experimental environment with respect to hadronic colliders. LEMMA approach for the production of low-emittance muon beams
/ Amapane, N (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Antonelli, M (Frascati) ; Anulli, F (INFN, Rome) ; Ballerini, G (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Bandiera, L (INFN, Ferrara) ; Bartosik, N (INFN, Turin) ; Bertolin, A (INFN, Padua) ; Biino, C (INFN, Turin) ; Blanco-Garcia, O R (Frascati) ; Boscolo, M (Frascati) et al.
This work introduces an experimental test of the new proposal for a low–emittance muon accelerator (LEMMA). A low–emittance muon beam is obtained from the e$^+$ e$^-$ → μ$^+$ μ$^-$ annihilation process at the threshold energy of 45 GeV eliminating the need for a dedicated muon cooling system. [...]

Muon collider: the Low EMittance Muon Accelerator (LEMMA) approach
/ Bartosik, Nazar (INFN, Turin) ; Antonelli, M (Frascati) ; Blanco-Garcia, O R (Frascati) ; Boscolo, M (Frascati) ; Iafrati, M (Frascati) ; Ponzio, B (Frascati) ; Ricci, M (Frascati) ; Rotondo, M (Frascati) ; Hoh, S (INFN, Padua) ; Lucchesi, D (INFN, Padua) et al.
This work introduces a new proposal for a low--emittance muon accelerator (LEMMA) in which muon beam is obtained from the e$^+$e$^-\rightarrow\mu^+\mu^-$ annihilation process with positrons at the threshold energy of 45 GeV. The experimental test beam setup implemented to validate this concept is presented together with preliminary results from the experimental data..

The CMS drift tubes (DT) muon detector, built for withstanding the LHC expected integrated and instantaneous luminosities, will be used also in the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) at a 5 times larger instantaneous luminosity and, consequently, much higher levels of radiation, reaching about 10 times the LHC integrated luminosity. Initial irradiation tests of a spare DT chamber at the CERN gamma irradiation facility (GIF++), at large ($\sim$O(100)) acceleration factor, showed ageing effects resulting in a degradation of the DT cell performance. Study of muon pair production from positron annihilation at threshold energy
/ LEMMA Collaboration
The muon collider represents one of the most promising solutions for a future machine exploring the high energy frontier, but several challenges due to the 2.2 $\mu$sec muon lifetime at rest have to be carefully considered. The LEMMA project is investigating the possibility of producing low emittance muon/antimuon pairs from the e$^+$e$^-$ annihilation process at threshold energy, resulting in small transverse emittance beams without any additional beam cooling. A new detector exploiting the technology of Gas Electron Multipliers is under construction to replace the innermost drift chamber of BESIII experiment, since its efficiency is compromised owing the high luminosity of Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The new inner tracker with a cylindrical shape will deploy several new features. [...]
