The dual-readout calorimetric technique reconstructs the event-by-event electromagnetic fraction of the hadronic shower through the simultaneous measurement of scintillating (S) and Cherenkov (C) light produced by the shower development. The new generation of prototypes, based on Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) readout, adds unprecedented granularity to the well-known high-energy resolution. [...]

A prototype of a dual-readout calorimeter using brass capillary tubes surrounding scintillating and clear plastic optical fibres was tested using beams of particles with energies between 10 and 100 GeV produced by the CERN SPS. The scope of the test was to characterise the performance of the tube-based detector response to positrons in terms of linearity, energy resolution, and lateral granularity. [...]

The high-luminosity phase of operation of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) will pose new challenges to the detectors and their readout electronics. In particular, the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) barrel electromagnetic calorimeter will require a full redesign of the electronic readout chain in order to cope with the increase in luminosity and trigger rate. First measurement of the forward rapidity gap distribution in pPb collisions at $ \sqrt{\smash[b]{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}} = $ 8.16 TeV / CMS Collaboration
For the first time at LHC energies, the forward rapidity gap spectra from proton-lead collisions for both proton and lead dissociation processes are presented. The analysis is performed over 10.4 units of pseudorapidity at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $ \sqrt{\smash[b]{s_{_{\mathrm{NN}}}}} = $ 8.16 TeV, almost 300 times higher than in previous measurements of diffractive production in proton-nucleus collisions. Measurements of jet multiplicity and jet transverse momentum in multijet events in proton-proton collisions at $ \sqrt{s}= $ 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Multijet events at large transverse momentum ($ p_{\mathrm{T}} $) are measured at $ \sqrt{s}= $ 13 TeV using data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb$^{-1}$. The multiplicity of jets with $ p_{\mathrm{T}} > $ 50 GeV that are produced in association with a high-$ p_{\mathrm{T}} $ dijet system is measured in various ranges of the $ p_{\mathrm{T}} $ of the jet with the highest transverse momentum and as a function of the azimuthal angle difference $ \Delta\phi_{1,2} $ between the two highest $ p_{\mathrm{T}} $ jets in the dijet system. Precision measurement of the Z boson invisible width in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
A precise measurement of the invisible width of the Z boson produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is presented using data recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb$^{-1}$. The result is obtained from a simultaneous fit to kinematic distributions for two data samples of Z boson plus jets: one dominated by Z boson decays to invisible particles and the other by Z boson decays to muon and electron pairs. Combination of inclusive top-quark pair production cross-section measurements using ATLAS and CMS data at $\sqrt{s}= 7$ and 8 TeV / ATLAS Collaboration
A combination of measurements of the inclusive top-quark pair production cross-section performed by ATLAS and CMS in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV at the LHC is presented. The cross-sections are obtained using top-quark pair decays with an opposite-charge electron-muon pair in the final state and with data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 5 fb$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and about 20 fb$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV for each experiment. Search for CP violating top quark couplings in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s} $ = 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from a search for CP violation in top quark pair production, using proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data used for this analysis consist of final states with two charged leptons collected by the CMS experiment, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$. [...]

Measurement of the mass dependence of the transverse momentum of lepton pairs in Drell-Yan production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
The double differential cross sections of the Drell-Yan lepton pair ($\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$, dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass ${m_{{\ell} {\ell} }}$, transverse momentum ${p_{\mathrm{T}}}(\ell\ell)$, and ${\varphi^{*}_{\eta}}$. The ${\varphi^{*}_{\eta}}$ observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with ${p_{\mathrm{T}}}(\ell\ell)$, is used to probe the low-${p_{\mathrm{T}}}(\ell\ell)$ region in a complementary way.
