Abstract The strangeness production in Au+Au collisions at beam energies of 6, 8, and 108 A GeV is reported from AGS Experiment E917. We present the excitation function of the K/ pi ratio as well as the yield of phi mesons and particle ratios as a function of centrality at the highest beam energy. With reference to pp collisions, we observe a strong enhancement in the production of strangeness carrying particles in heavy ion collisions, which is demonstrated in terms of various particle production ratios.
