Abstract A simulation of the event building network of the Data Acquisition System of the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN has been developed. The simulation of this highly complex system allows the validation of the system design and the optimization of its performance. The correctness of the simulation model is verified using measurements from test set-ups and a forecast for the full-scale system is made.
