Abstract Laser spectroscopy measurements have been performed on neutron- deficient iridium isotopes. The hyperfine structure and isotope shift of the optical Ir I transition 5d/sup 7/6s/sup 2/ /sup 4/F/sub 9/2/ to 5d/sup 7/6s6p /sup 6/F/sub 11/2/ at 351.5 nm have been studied for the /sup 182-189/Ir, /sup 186/Ir/sup m/ and /sup 191,193/Ir isotopes. The nuclear magnetic and quadrupole moments were obtained from the HFS measurements and the changes of the mean square charge radii from the IS measurements. A large mean square charge radius change between /sup 187/Ir and /sup 186/Ir and between /sup 186/Ir/sup m/ and /sup 186/Ir/sup g/ has been observed. (18 refs).
