Installation of LHC's injection for the absorber TDIS at P8

Date: 18-11-2020

The TDIS (target dump injection segmented) is a machine-protecting device for the LHC equipment, located close to the point at which particles are injected from the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). Four months after the installation of the first unit at Point 2 of the LHC in the second and last TDIS is being integrated in the machine at P8. As last time, the equipment has been lowered through P1 into the tunnel and hauled for 3 km on a dedicated trailer to reach its destination. Thanks to the vault handling system specifically mounted for this purpose the TDIS is lifted and displaced laterally before letting it rest on top of its 3 jacks. The cooling circuit has been as well successfully connected to the LHC network and now the final alignment in the machine has to be conducted to allow the coupling to the vacuum line.
