Knowledge Transfer technologies : photos 1 to 3: Timepix chip. Photo 4 is a silicon wafer. The Timepix3 chip is a multipurpose hybrid pixel detector developed within the Medipix3 Collaborations, having applications within medical imaging, education, space dosimetry and material analysis. Long caption: The Timepix3 chip is a multipurpose hybrid pixel detector developed within the Medipix3 Collaborations. In addition to counting photons, Timepix3 (and also Medipix3) can determine the energy level of each individual photon detected. The Timepix3 chip was developed with the aim of producing a general-purpose integrated circuit suitable for readout of both semiconductor detectors and gas-filled detectors. It has been used in test beams in experiments at CERN with excellent results. With assistance from the CERN Knowledge Transfer, the Timepix3 chip and its family of chips from the Medipix Collaborations have found new commercial applications within, amongst others, medical imaging, education, space dosimetry and material analysis. And photo 4 : a silicon wafer is a thin slice of semiconductor material used in fabrication of integrated circuits and other devices for microelectronics. Simply put, integrated circuits are a composite of various electronic components, arranged to perform a specific function. The wafer serves as the substrate for microelectronic devices built in and over the wafer.
