Abstract Modern tracking codes have very stringent requirements concerning space charge calculations. They should combine speed of calculations, in order to track particles for many turns (e.g. the LHC injection chain), with numerical accuracy while maintaining symplecticity. Grid solvers and modified Green's function algorithms have been compared, and upgrades were suggested.
