Abstract | The paper discusses the implications of a 125 GeV Higgs boson on the search for new physics. Assuming that the intriguing hints reported by ATLAS and CMS in December 2011 could be considered the first evidence of the presence of the Standard Model Higgs boson in LHC data, the paper describes the set of preliminary measurements that could be done to assess the properties of the new particle. Some of these measurements, in particular the measurement of the couplings, could have a crucial role in hinting at the possible presence on new phenomena beyond the Standard Model. |
