Abstract In this paper we outline two projects related to the LHC in the next two decades: (i) the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), aiming increase the LHC luminosity performance to gather 3000 fb−1 in the 20’s, and (ii) the High Energy LHC (HE-LHC), a collider to increase LHC energy by a factor 2.5 to be installed in the LEP tunnel in the 30’s. After a short summary of the operations results in 2010-12, the main challenges of these projects are summarized, with special emphasis on the magnets.
