Abstract | The ATLAS detector is optimized for the Higgs Boson search and the search for new physics at the terascale. For many signals in the Standard Model and new physics like Supersymmetry and Higgs Boson, tau leptons represent an important signature. This work presents the commissioning of the ATLAS tau reconstruction and identification algorithm with the first 7 TeV data. It will present a set of studies based on data taken in 2010 at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. For early data taking a cut-based identification method will be used. We measured some of the basic input quantities for this identification method from selected reconstructed tau candidates and compared the results to the prediction of different Monte Carlo simulation models. |
