Abstract Resistive Plate Chambers, working in avalanche mode, have been chosen as dedicated muon detector both in barrel and endcap region of the CMS experiment for their fast response and for their capability to be produced as tracking devices on large areas. The production of the barrel RPC chambers will be reported here with special enphasis on the quality control and on the acceptation criteria carried out during the production. Results of the tests with cosmic rays both in production and testing sites will be summerized putting in evidence the problems and the critical issues characterizing the different phases of the construction.
