Agility is a function of the fundamental Supply Chain capabilities. A question I have been asked often is… ‘How do we get more agile?’ When I ask them about their thoughts on it, the common answer is implementing a cutting edge state-of-the-art planning system. While visibility and concurrent planning do help in cutting down some delays in execution, it is only the first step in the agility journey. Once these low hanging fruits have been plucked, we must work on improving the fundamental supply chain capabilities. The three basic questions defining agility are • How soon can we decipher the evolving demand patterns in the market place? • How fast can we use it to replan and execute? • Are we flexible enough to allow multiple options in meeting this evolving demand? It is important to assess the current level of capability in these three areas and institute the Process of Ongoing Improvement to focus on these capabilities, especially at the leverage points. To summarise, Demand Sensing, Responsiveness, and Flexibility define how agile our supply chain can be. #supplychain #design #agility #demandsensing #flexibility #responsiveness #capabilities #planning #execution #improvement #poogi #toc #tocplus #primenuggets

Lets understand benefits of Implementing a Supplier Scorecard System A supplier scorecard system is a valuable tool for evaluating and managing supplier performance. Here are the key benefits: 1. Enhanced Performance Tracking: Supplier scorecards provide a structured way to track and monitor supplier performance across various metrics, such as quality, delivery, cost, and service. This continuous monitoring helps in identifying trends and areas for improvement. 2.Improved Supplier Relationships: Regularly sharing scorecard results with suppliers fosters transparency and open communication. Constructive feedback based on scorecard data helps suppliers understand expectations and areas needing improvement, strengthening the overall relationship. 3. Informed Decision-Making: Scorecards offer objective data that aids in making informed procurement decisions. This includes supplier selection, contract renewals, and identifying strategic partners. Data-driven decisions reduce risks and enhance procurement outcomes. 4. Incentivizing Supplier Excellence: Implementing a scorecard system can motivate suppliers to perform better by setting clear performance targets and benchmarks. High-performing suppliers can be rewarded with more business, while low-performing ones are encouraged to improve. 5. Risk Mitigation: By regularly evaluating suppliers, organizations can identify potential risks early, such as declining performance or non-compliance issues. This proactive approach enables timely interventions to mitigate risks and ensure supply chain stability. 6. Cost Reduction: Supplier scorecards help identify inefficiencies and areas where cost savings can be achieved. By holding suppliers accountable for their performance, organizations can negotiate better terms and reduce procurement costs. 7. Continuous Improvement: The systematic evaluation process promotes a culture of continuous improvement. Both suppliers and the procurement team can work together to implement best practices and achieve better results over time. 8. Strategic Alignment: Scorecards ensure that supplier performance aligns with the organization's strategic objectives. This alignment ensures that suppliers contribute positively to the company’s goals and values. #SupplierScorecard #PerformanceManagement #ProcurementExcellence #SupplierRelationships #RiskMitigation

‘Fragile Ego of a Planner’ Recently , I attended a round table discussion on the challenges faced by Supply Chain Professionals organized by a Supply Chain transformation Solutions Company and PwC To list a few.challenges... 1) Blame by Sales on not having enough inventory at the right time 2) Grappling with situations of having too much inventory which is obsolete 3) Tussle with Production who is producing to maximize output from the machines to improve efficiency without any regard for demand change 4) Out of control Logistics costs shooting up for increased last min shipments across country .... I started my career in P&G Supply Chain in 1997 and P&G was addressing exactly these issues then. Today , in 2024 also, 27 years ‘slow forward’ , companies are still addressing these issues. Hence I wonder if this is really a Supply Chain issue or an Organisation wide cultural and Mindset issue. Every planner: Sales planner, Initiative Planner, Demand Planner, Supply Planner and Production planner wants to show their mental acumen and analytical skills and add value to a Supply and Demand plan and thus ruin a simpler solution . I call this intervention by planner as satisfying the fragile ego. If this ego could be set aside and AI enabled solutions could be accepted which are available now a days, these issues could be addressed to a certain extent . I have witnessed P&G, Fedex do this and that’s how these companies are considered Masters of Supply Chain . Company top leadership involvement is required to solve these issues. Supply Chain alone cannot solve it. What is needed is all planners ( Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain , production) to focus on putting down the variables they can think of which impact the supply -demand balancing solution and then let heuristics and optimizers do their work. It is said that AI will take away planner’s job. I say, leverage AI , redefine the planners role by measuring KPIs related to Master data accuracy, Assumptions capture in the tools and most important: no of changes made to solution provided by system looping back to capturing assumptions in next cycle. This will get balanced plans being executed and company challenges mentioned above being solved #supplychaintransformation #IBP #interfunctioncollaboration #AIenabledsolutions
