Dr. Orji was chosen in recognition of her efforts in and out of the classroom to advance technology.

The Faculty for the Future program, launched in 2004, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or Post-doctorate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines at leading universities worldwide.

The long-term goal of the program is to generate conditions that result in more women pursuing academic careers in STEM disciplines thus contributing to the socio-economic development of their home countries and regions.

In recognition of the importance and impact of my research, I gave an invited talk to the Canadian Parliament – House of Commons’ Standing Committee. My presentation on “Using Persuasive Technology for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention” was very well received by the lawmakers and it has been adopted as part of the recommendation and report of the Standing Committee on Health titled “Chronic Disease Related to Aging and Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.”

Vanier Scholarship is the most prestigious Canadian Ph.D. Scholarship that aims “to attract and retain world-class doctoral students in Canada."

I was ranked 5th out of 167 recipients nationwide.

The James Chen Annual Award is a competitive award given to one out of all the papers published by the UMUAI journal in 2014.
