    The Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference was created to broaden the perspectives of future leaders in business, unions and public administration so that their decisions are based on a practical understanding of the influence of their organizations on the general welfare of the community.

    The mission of the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference is to:

    • Improve decision-making abilities among young leaders likely to occupy high level positions in the near future;

    • Facilitate a more progressive era of interaction between leaders from business, labour, government and the broader community; and

    • Broaden understanding of Canada.


    Mandate

    Members of the Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference come from different regions of Canada, different perspectives and different careers. All members share one thing in common: they are high potential individuals expected to achieve senior leadership positions in their organizations and communities.

    To develop a roadmap for reform, the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS or the Ministry) convened the Income Security Reform Working Group to provide advice on an implementation plan that prioritizes opportunities for reform, including policy recommendations on the structure of a future social assistance system and the sequencing of implementation activities for both immediate and longer-term reform.


    Responsibilities:

    • Inform details of proposed changes for social assistance, in the context of the broader income security system;

    • Recommend and endorse a detailed roadmap and timeline for implementation that sequences change with the broader income security system in a manner that is effective in reducing poverty and fiscally realistic.

    • Consider all aspects of the current social assistance system, including policy, program design, and service delivery.

    • Confirm and prioritize opportunities for reform, including the sequencing and costs of various changes.

    • Consider opportunities for coordination and/or integration of social assistance programs with other government initiatives related to the broader income security system and human services

    • Consider what benefits should be available outside social assistance as broader income security measures and how to promote labour market attachment. Sequencing of implementation activities over a multi-year timeframe
