Discussing bills with friends, partners or roommates for shared living spaces is never fun but it is necessary. When it comes to utilities, make sure you discuss: 💸 Whose name is on the account 💸 How you will split the utilities 💸 What you will do if someone moves out It’s always a good idea to put everything in writing so you can reference it if there are disagreements down the line. #UCAHelps #UtilitiesConsumerAdvocate

Albertan’s who don’t sign a contract for natural gas or electricity services with a competitive retailer are served by a regulated retailer. The Regulated Rate Option (electricity) or Default Rate Tariff (natural gas) is approved monthly by the Alberta Utilities Commission. These rates are influenced by several factors including supply and demand, seasonal changes and market conditions. Each distributor has their own rate, so rates will vary depending on where you’re located in the province. For September, the regulated rates for residential electricity consumers are: 💥DERS: 11.361 💥ENMAX: 10.123 💥EPCOR: 11.698 💥FORTIS: 11.479 The Default Rate Tariffs for natural gas consumers are: 💥DERS: 0.848 💥APEX: 0.839 If you want to learn more about the Regulated Rate, head here: https://buff.ly/46JBZm8 #UCAHelps #UtilitiesConsumerAdvocate

Sub-meters are typically used for multi-unit complexes such as apartment and condo buildings. These bulk-metering installations are used to allocate energy costs to you and other residents. Your landlord or management company will select the company that bills you for submetering. Measurement Canada ensures the accuracy of these devices through measurement standards and a certification program. If you have a question about the sub-metering devices in your building, contact your landlord, condo board or property management company. #UCAHelps #UtilitiesConsumerAdvocate

September is Disaster Preparedness Month. When emergencies happen, it’s important to be prepared. Emergency kits should include water and external power sources in case water lines are shut off or power is down. If you see downed power lines, do not touch them, stay back about the length of a bus and call 911. Do not touch any object near them as well as they may be energized. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. #UCAHelps #UtilitiesConsumerAdvocate #DisasterPreparednessMonth

A load limiter is a device installed on an electricity meter when a retailer wishes to limit the amount of power available to a property without fully disconnecting the service. When a limiter is installed, it will allow a home to run its furnace, fridge, one stove element and a few light bulbs. If you have a limiter installed at your property, please refer to your distribution company’s website to determine what type of limiter you have and how to work with it. If you require electric medical equipment, ensure you have a back-up power supply as continuous electricity service is not guaranteed when a load limiter is installed.
