Today we celebrate an icon. On this day in 1980, Pac-Man was launched in the US. It changed the world of video games forever – and gave us all a serious case of “Pac-Man Fever”. Pac-Man’s journey is a great reminder of the power of timing and innovation. The game was originally released as “Puck-Man” in Japan, but it was the US launch that turned Pac-Man into a cultural phenomenon. It shows us that even the most brilliant ideas sometimes need the right market and moment to truly shine. So, what can we learn from Pac-Man? Sadly, nothing about ghosts. But if you’re looking to expand your business, or launch a new product, Pac-Man shows that you should always know your audience and adapt to their needs. A little rebranding and the right distribution strategy can take something good and turn it into something legendary. Let’s channel some of that Pac-Man energy into our own business goals. Who else is going to play a game of Pac-Man to celebrate today? https://lnkd.in/gWijAQG3

Heads up: LinkedIn might be using your data to train Microsoft’s AI models. They recently rolled out a feature called 'Data for Generative AI Improvement,' which allows AI models to watch your LinkedIn activity and learn from it. And here’s the kicker: It’s turned ON by default. This means your posts, comments, and other interactions could be feeding AI systems without you even knowing. The feature raises some important questions about data privacy. LinkedIn claims that it limits the use of personal data and only shares information with companies owned by Microsoft. But you still might want more control over how your data is used. Luckily, you can opt out if you want to. Just go to your LinkedIn settings, click Data Privacy, and turn off Data for Generative AI Improvement. It’s important to be aware of how your data is being used, especially in the age of AI. Tell me, do you and your team already check for settings like this? https://lnkd.in/gVs5ah7D

Microsoft has just launched a new Windows app designed to make remote work more flexible. The app allows you to stream a copy of Windows from various sources, like Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Remote Desktop. It works as a hub that lets you access Windows from almost anywhere – and you can use it on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, web browser, Android device, or even another Windows PC. The new app has been in testing for nearly a year and comes with some great features, such as a customizable home screen, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection. This means you can use local devices like webcams, storage drives and printers as if they were connected directly to your remote PC. It's going to be really useful for businesses that need their team to access their work computers from home or on the go. The app is currently limited to Microsoft work and school accounts, with a focus on making remote work more efficient for companies that already use their Remote Desktop services. If your business relies on remote access to Windows PCs, this new app could be a game-changer. It’s available now in the Microsoft Store, as well as in the App Store for Apple devices. And the Android version is in public preview. Will you be downloading it for your team? https://lnkd.in/daMz5zYr

Scammers are using yet another sneaky trick to catch you off guard: This time, it's a subtle typo that lets them pretend to be Microsoft. If you got an email from something like '[email protected]', would you notice the difference? If you didn't catch it, take a closer look... Instead of “microsoft”, they’re using “rnicrosoft”. The “m” is replaced with an “r” and “n” together, which can look like an “m” at first glance. It’s a very simple but effective way to trick you into thinking you’re interacting with the real company. And it’s being used in phishing emails to fool you into sharing things like passwords and financial details. How can you protect yourself and your business? Slow down. Look carefully at every email, including the sender’s address – especially if it’s asking for sensitive information or contains links. And always make sure your team knows to do the same. Don’t let a small typo lead to a big problem. If you need help improving your email security or training your team to spot scams, get in touch. https://lnkd.in/g8-7fium

Microsoft Teams is about to give you more control over the privacy of your meetings. Teams is already a great tool for businesses, with useful features like live captions and transcription helping to make meetings accessible and easier to follow. The new update is going to make it even better. Now, when you organize a meeting, you’ll also be able to choose whether you want to allow participants to copy or forward things, like meeting recaps and transcripts. Imagine you're building a strategy or sharing sensitive client information with your team. The new feature will give you peace of mind, knowing that details shared in the meeting stay in the meeting. This will be especially useful for businesses that work with a lot of confidential data. The update is part of Microsoft's ongoing commitment to improve security and collaboration in Teams. And it’s due to roll out next month. Not using Teams yet? Give it a go! Get in touch – my team can help you get started. https://lnkd.in/gjNY69Ee

Have you heard of zero-day attacks? They're one of the most dangerous cyber threats right now, because they target weaknesses in software or hardware that no one knows about… not even the developers. Your usual defenses like security software can’t protect you, because there’s no known way to stop the attack until it’s too late. This is why they’re called “zero-day” attacks – security teams have had 'zero days' to fix the problem. Zero-day attacks are like a hidden trapdoor in your system, allowing scammers to steal data, install malware (malicious software), or find other ways to hurt your business without you even realizing it. While it can help to keep your software updated, as well as to use extra security measures (like multi-factor authentication), there’s no foolproof solution to zero-day attacks. The only way to protect your business is to understand what zero-days are and how to prepare for them, in case you get hit. We can talk you through this and help you prepare. Get in touch. https://lnkd.in/gVZRJGTZ

OneDrive is getting a colorful upgrade that will make managing files in Windows 11 even easier. Soon you’ll be able to change the color of your OneDrive folders straight from File Explorer. While the update might seem like just a little tweak, it could have a great impact on your team’s workflow. Think about how files are used in your business. Do you end up scrolling endlessly, trying to find what you’re looking for? Colored folders will make it easy to see important folders at a glance – and you could use specific colors for different projects, or to highlight priority documents. The feature is already available in the web version of OneDrive for Business, and now it’s coming to Windows 11. It’s part of Microsoft's effort to make OneDrive a more powerful tool for businesses by improving integration with the desktop experience. While this feature is currently aimed at businesses with a 365 subscription, it's a sign that Microsoft is listening to feedback and finding ways to improve productivity tools for professionals. If you’d like to know how OneDrive can benefit your business, we can help. Get in touch. https://lnkd.in/gw9mckD9

Today marks the anniversary of a groundbreaking invention that changed technology as we know it – the transistor. On October 3, 1950, researchers at AT&T Bell Laboratories received a patent for this tiny yet incredible device. Wait… what IS a transistor? I hear you ask. To put it simply, it's a small electronic switch that can turn signals on and off. Think of it like a light switch, but for electrical currents. While the transistor was originally designed to improve telephone switching systems, it ended up having a much bigger impact. Transistors quickly replaced bulky vacuum tubes, leading to the creation of integrated circuits and microchips - the building blocks of today’s electronics. The invention of the transistor allowed technology to become smaller, faster, and more reliable. And it laid the foundation for everything from computers and smartphones to medical equipment and space travel. For businesses? Access to more advanced tools, better communication systems, and the ability to innovate at lightning pace. Every industry that relies on technology owes a debt to the humble transistor. It’s a reminder of how a single invention can reshape entire industries and open up new possibilities for growth and change. Can you imagine where we'd be without it? https://lnkd.in/gsrkg-Xv
