Great highlight from Guy Raz featuring our founders Jamie Cormack & Lyndon Cormack and our story.
What makes a product memorable? What is it about certain things that make us feel connected to them? These are questions that brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack asked. The two brothers were searching for a great business idea. And after a lot of thinking and Even more tinkering… They landed on backpacks. Why backpacks? Well…let me ask you THIS question? Can you picture the backpack you had in school? Or the one you wore on a trip with friends? I’m willing to bet you do. Because backpacks are one of those memorable things. They hold our belongings… …our ideas… …our keepsakes. And because of that… We build a connection with it. Knowing all of this…Jamie and Lyndon decided to tap into our sense of nostalgia. They didn’t just create a backpack… They made one that looked like it had been around for a hundred years. They called their brand Herschel Supply Company. It was named after a small town in Canada they used to visit as kids. Their hunch about backpacks turned out to be right. The timeless look and rugged feel reminded lots of people of a moment in life… …a journey… An experience. And within 3 years, Herschel Supply Company hit over 50 million dollars in sales! Today Herschel makes much MUCH more than just backpacks. And every time the brothers Cormack come out with a new product line…they ask themselves that same question they asked at the beginning: What makes a product memorable. It’s a great question to ask if you’re trying to build a business… To find out the wisdom and secrets behind how the Cormack brothers built Herschel Supply Company listen to their story on my podcast 'How I Built This' We’ll put a link to the episode in the bio!
