Harrison Street’s Managing Director and Head of Digital Assets Michael Hochanadel recently took part in a video interview with i3's Kali Persall. In the interview, Michael discussed Harrison Street’s approach to data center investments, including how the firm identifies optimal markets, the importance of connectivity in meeting the needs of end users, the rapid growth of the market, and the role of partnerships in building and scaling efforts within the sector. “The operational intensity of the asset class as well as just the complexity involved in delivering one of these sorts of products requires key experts across a wide range of disciplines,” Michael commented. “In many cases, we're also viewing our customer relationship as a partnership in an effort to advance their designs in a way that is consistent with our site and our access to power. It's really impossible to execute without partnerships across each of those different dimensions.” As a leader in the digital assets sector, Harrison Street has committed $4.2 billion since 2018 to powered shells, carrier hotels, strategic collocations and dark fiber, and has built a dedicated team committed to investing across verticals that are key parts of the digital ecosystem. Harrison Street’s medical office asset in Santa Clarita, California faces regional climate hazards such as drought, heat waves and storms, highlighting the need for robust climate risk management. By understanding these climate risks, we developed a comprehensive plan that included underwriting comprehensive property insurance coverage, implementing resource price escalators, and installing emergency generators along with energy-efficient systems. Through these and similar proactive measures, we ensure that our properties can best serve communities and maintain their value amidst evolving climate risks. Harrison Street hosted another successful Take Your Kids to Work Day at our corporate office in Chicago. This year, the children of Harrison Street employees got to give back by stuffing backpacks for the Chicago Youth Programs, designed their own Harrison Street logo with Legos and learned about the different departments collecting “passport stickers” as they toured the office. #HarrisonStreet #TakeYourKidsToWorkDay #CompanyCulture
