ICYMI: ORBA CEO Walid Abou-Hamde joined Board member Mark Mallett and on-site teams from our members Kiewit and Dufferin Construction Company at the Highway 417 Rapid Bridge Replacement in Ottawa. The project started Thursday evening and was completed over the weekend, and both eastbound and westbound traffic now open to accommodate this morning’s commuters. Thank you to all who were present for the installation of new bridges including Ontario Ministry of Transportation/ Ministère des Transports de l’Ontario Eastern Region Head of Construction Melissa Buelow and Contract Services Administrator, Transportation Chad Manion. The team at Mammoet also did an incredible job moving new bridges, each weighing close to 2000tons, into place. Successfully concluding this complex project would not have been possible without our members, stakeholders and industry partners, and the workers who were present continuously for the duration of the work. Our members remain at the forefront of quality, innovation and sustainability in an increasingly evolving industry, and projects like this one are clear examples of their limitless ingenuity. #Infrastructure #BridgeReplacement #Ontario #Highways #Innovation 

It’s been a busy month for our crews working on Dufferin Constructions Wyecroft Rd extension project for Halton Region. The crew successfully completed a 388m drive of 1500mm RC pipe for a 900 CPP watermain and just this week completed a 65m long 900mm storm outfall to the local creek, both with our selection of Herrenknecht MTBMs. Some detailed planning and skilled execution allowed for the MTBM retrieval and headwall works to be completed without any tree clearing or access road construction down into the creek valley. Congrats to our team for completing another world class project which highlights their expertise in their field. We look forward to completing the remaining tunnels on this project and wish Dufferin Construction continued success on this impressive project.

Earlier today, Prabmeet Sarkaria, Ontario's Minister of Transportation announced that construction of the Simcoe County Interchange at Highway 400 & Simcoe County Road 88, and a new southbound lane on Highway 400 will begin this summer. The interchange which is set to connect to the future Bradford Bypass, will not only help alleviate the commuter traffic in the Greater Golden Horseshoe regions, it will also support in the creation of up to 2,200 jobs annually for Ontario residents. Being awarded the construction contract of this ground-breaking project is an amazing accomplishment for our teams at DCC, and we're extremely proud to contribute to the provincial government's ambitious plans of expanding and enhancing the infrastructure in Ontario. We are proud to present the 2023 I&D Excellence award to the teams behind a very special initiative that was introduced last year through a kick-off event hosted by our businesses in Ontario, the Women in Trades program! The employee-led program was launched in Spring of 2023 at an open-house event held at Dufferin Aggregates’ Milton Quarry. More than 70 young women from the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) were welcomed by teams from our Dufferin Concrete, Ontario Redimix, Dufferin Aggregates, Dufferin Construction Company and Ash Grove Cement businesses in Ontario as well as members from our Women’s Employee Resource Group, who showed the students the many advantages of choosing a career in the trades. Now, over a year later, the Women in Trades Group has attended multiple events hosted by the schoolboard, continuing their mission of bringing visibility to the various educational and career opportunities available within the trade industries to the next generation of women entering the workforce. We are incredibly honoured as the recipients of CRH Canada’s Gold OH&S Excellence Award for the revamp of our Traffic Control Training Program! Our teams are committed to maintaining safety at our work sites and zones, so they eagerly embraced the opportunity to enhance our Traffic Control Training Program when Book 7 of the Ontario Traffic Manual was updated by Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation. The improvements to our Traffic Control Program enabled a new Crash Truck mentorship to develop, which aimed to provide our teams working on major roads with the training and tools they would need to feel secure and competent to perform their roles safely. At Dufferin Construction, the safety of our people and others near our work zones will always be our priority. This award is a true testament of the commitment of our people. We are proud to be recognized alongside Dufferin Concrete as the winners of CRH Canada’s Gold Innovative & Sustainable Business Solutions Excellence Award for our collaboration on another successful project at the Toronto Pearson Intl Airport in 2023! While working on a project at the airport last year, our crews, in collaboration with the teams at Dufferin Concrete came together to provide several sustainable concrete solutions in order to meet the customer’s carbon reduction targets for the project. Thanks to the dedication of both teams, we successfully implemented these initiatives resulting in a significant decrease in CO2 emissions.
