#Damera Corporation is excited to see the momentum building around electric #motorcoach TEMSA #TS45e in Canada, especially in initiatives like #OntarioNorthland 's pilot program. This program aims to explore the feasibility of electric coaches on short- and long-haul routes between Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Ottawa, and Toronto. Electric Autonomy reported, "The research started about a year ago". FleetZero, was awarded a contract to advise Ontario Northland on integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet. In preparation for real-world testing, FleetZero collaborated closely with both Ontario Northland and #Damera, gathering and analyzing performance and data. Based on this analysis, they identified TS45e as the best EV option. Since August, #Temsa #TS45e has been actively tested on various routes to assess it's performance in real-world conditions. According to Naeem Farooqi, CEO of FleetZero, the pilot program "is running smoothly". TS45e is manufactured in Turkey and is capable of traveling up to 400 kilometers on a single charge. Its "800-volt architecture" refers to its advanced electrical system, which allows for more efficient power usage, faster charging times, and better overall performance, making it suitable for long-distance travel, like the routes Ontario Northland operates. The next steps, once the buses successfully complete the test routes, will involve developing a plan to gradually introduce more electric vehicles ("a rollout plan") into the fleet. This includes determining what kind of infrastructure, such as charging stations, will be needed to support the transition. After that, the focus will shift to figuring out how to train and prepare the fleet operators, stakeholders, and other involved parties to effectively use and manage the new electric vehicles. Due to the remote nature of these routes and the long distances involved—coupled with the limited availability of public charging infrastructure—Ontario Northland has become an ideal partner for testing electric coaches. This pilot project provides valuable insights into how electric buses can perform under challenging conditions. Early findings from the project indicate that a robust private charging network would be essential to support the transition to electric buses. Naeem Farooqi notes that such infrastructure will be necessary to enable the successful electrification of Ontario Northland's fleet. *Ontario Northland operates a network of passenger and freight trains, along with buses, connecting key regions such as Toronto, St. James Bay, Ottawa, and Kenora. Notably, Ontario Northland provides the only year-round rail service to First Nation communities in the remote St. James Bay area.
