Ceremonies were held today in the capital Lefkoşa, districts, and Boğaz Martyrs’ Cemetery to mark the 110th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs’ Remembrance Day.

The official ceremony at Boğaz Martyrs’ Cemetery began with the laying of wreaths in accordance with protocol.

A keynote speech was delivered by a Lieutenant from the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus, who provided historical context on the path to the Çanakkale Victory, emphasizing the unbreakable bond between the nation and its martyrs.

Following the speech by the officer from the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus, the ceremonial guestbook was signed, and soil from Boğaz Martyrs’ Cemetery was presented by Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Ziya Öztürkler, to Türkiye’s Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Ali Murat Başçeri, for delivery to Anıtkabir.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Ziya Öztürkler highlighted the significance of the Çanakkale Victory, describing it as not only a military and political success but also a triumph of determination, unity, and courage.

He underscored that Çanakkale was the foundation of Türkiye’s War of Independence and the Republic’s establishment, also serving as an inspiration for the Cyprus Turkish people’s struggle for freedom and independence.

Öztürkler stressed that, just as the Çanakkale martyrs made great sacrifices, the Cyprus Turkish people had also paid a heavy price to live freely alongside their motherland.

He pointed out that, while the ceremonies were being held to honor the martyrs, discussions on the Cyprus issue were taking place in Geneva.

Drawing attention to recent statements by the Greek Cypriot leadership, Öztürkler noted that they continued to insist on a solution excluding Turkish troops and Türkiye’s guarantorship.

He reaffirmed that the presence of Turkish forces and Türkiye’s role as a guarantor remain a red line for the TRNC and the Cyprus Turkish people.

“The Cyprus Turkish side, together with our motherland, will continue our new policy of sovereignty, equality, and equal international status without making any concessions,” Öztürkler declared.

Following the speeches, flowers were placed on the graves of martyrs, marking the conclusion of the ceremony at Boğaz Martyrs’ Cemetery.
