Now it's time for some body copy. Think of this as a graduated elevator pitch ... let's call it an escalator pitch: four to five sentences (250–400 characters) that give a nice, appetizer-sized overview of the book. There's room below for press and blurbs, so it's best to use this space to share a broad, snappy synopsis, as well as comps, awards, and, if helpful, a word on the author's backlist.

There are no hard and fast rules for the bio section, but we find it best to aim for the middle of the target. Very long bios ("Jane Doe was born on Oct. 11th in the tangled mangroves of the Florida Panhandle...") tend to get passed over, and very short bios ("Jane Doe is a human from North America.") miss good opportunities to sell the author's achievements and back catalog.
Our advice: give reasonable background, mention awards, provide links to other titles, and shoot for 250–500 characters.
