About us
APPLiA represents the home appliance industry in Europe. APPLiA was founded as the European Association of National Associations in 1958. Over the past 50 years it has undergone a number of transformations to become even more effective. A permanent Brussels office was established in 1997 to better represent its members vis-à-vis the European Communities institutions. Direct membership for individual household appliance companies was also introduced that year. APPLiA Direct Member companies produce the following products: - large household appliances (including refrigerators & freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers, ovens, hoods); - small household appliances (covering a wide range of products from shavers to vacuum cleaners); - heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, mainly for residential use. APPLiA represents an innovative industry. Examples of current areas of innovation are interactivity with electronic communication technology and improving performance while reducing power and, where relevant, water consumption. APPLiA's successful Energy & Environment projects shows how reduced environmental impact can be coupled to enhanced product performance.

🇪🇺 Yesterday, the Council of the European Union adopted the new EU product liability rules in line with the digital age. The new rules take into account that nowadays many products are connected to the network and have various digital features. “The alignment with digital legislation is a step in the right direction. Equally important is the fact that online platforms can be held liable for a defective product sold by them, just like any other economic operators," said APPLiA Digital & Competitiveness Senior Policy Director Michał Zakrzewski. ❗While it is vital that consumers can seek compensation for harm caused by defective products, it remains key for the claimant to prove the damage. Any malfunctioning caused by a condition which could not be foreseen by the manufacturer, should not be directly attributed to it. Member states will have two years to transpose the directive into national law. “Since it is a directive, the big challenge now would be to ensure timely and aligned transposition in the Member States” - added Zakrzewski. 🔗 Read the press release: https://lnkd.in/dRzDXTmP

🚨Today, the Council of the European Union adopted the Cyber Resilience Act setting mandatory security standards for digital products across Europe! ➡️ As we interact with our smart applications, we generate vast amounts of data, making it crucial to secure them against any potential threat. "This new legislation introduces essential cybersecurity requirements for all home appliances with digital elements, further enhancing the security of products available in the European market", said APPLiA Digital & Competitiveness Senior Policy Director Michał Zakrzewski. ➡️ However, the current EU framework for digital products already includes several pieces of legislation, such as the Radio Equipment Directive, Delegated Act. "Ensuring coherence among these policies is vital to avoid repetition and conflicts, which will enhance the overall effectiveness of the Cyber Resilience Act."
