👀 Next time you arrive at Brussels Airport, keep an eye out for our message to MEPs in the Arrivals corridor🛬 We’re urging MEPs to join us in securing a competitive, sustainable future for Europe’s airline industry. 🌍 Europe’s aviation sector is crucial to keeping our continent connected—enabling millions to live, work, study, and do business across the EU and beyond. ⛓ Strong connections mean a stronger Europe. For future generations, we want to preserve this connectivity. That means driving sustainability, boosting competitiveness, reforming our airspace, and completing the single aviation market. The latest report from the Single European Sky’s Performance Review Body (PRB) reveals a continued deterioration in ATC performance across Europe. This summer saw: - A 6.2% increase in traffic to 1.41 million flights - A 44.9% increase in total ATFM delays to nearly 9 million minutes - An average delay of 13 minutes per delayed flight - An 80.8% increase in ATC capacity-related delays - A 16.2% increase in ATC staffing-related delays Nearly half of all flights in Europe experienced some form of delay during the summer. This trend underscores the urgent need for capacity improvements to keep pace with traffic recovery and future growth. It is critical that upon his confirmation, Commissioner-Designate Apostolos Tzitzikostas swiftly responds to President von der Leyen’s call to develop a strategy to address the inefficiencies in air traffic management within the Single European Sky. The French Government is considering raising aviation taxes. Such action would weaken French aviation, reduce connectivity in France and lower consumer welfare. Together with ACI Europe, we urge the French Government to reconsider its plans which do not appear to be based on an in-depth economic impact analysis. ✈️ It's the report we've all been waiting for. Will Super Mario come to the rescue and level up European competitiveness? There's quite a lot to like about the report from an aviation point of view. As a hard to decarbonise sector, the underlying point that energy costs have a big part to play is particular true. We particularly like some of the suggestions around: ✅ Supporting the green transition with low-carbon fuels ✅ Unlocking investment in decarbonising aviation ✅ Reforming Europe's inefficient airspace ✅ Addressing business leakage and asymmetrical decarbonisation Air transport is crucial to Europe’s economic prosperity, but without swift action, we risk falling behind. Airlines for Europe (A4E) is urging EU policymakers and member states to do whatever it takes to implement the report’s recommendations.
