Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born in Hull, Yorkshire, although she was brought up and died in Edinburgh, where she attended the College of Art, 1939–43. Mark was influenced by John Maxwell. Like his work hers has a lyrical quality, with cool colours and a strong decorative sense. Her pictures can have an atmosphere of time suspended, with people in windows, waiting. Mark taught art successfully in primary schools, for four years was attached to Moray House as a crafts lecturer, also in the art department, followed by a period at St Denis School and a return to Moray House. She married Robin Philipson the artist in 1949, his first wife. Mark was a prominent exhibitor at SSA of which she was a member and RSA. She received the RSA Award and its Guthrie Award.
