African World Heritage Fund
The African World Heritage Fund is a UNESCO Category II Centre and works in close collaboration with UNESCO, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre (WHC) and the Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Committee, i.e. the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN),
AWHF’s programmes and activities are implemented through local, regional and international strategic partners.
The role of the AWHF is to facilitate, assist and ensure implementation of the strategic objectives with the assistance of experts largely drawn from the African Continent.
The finances required to enable the Fund to adequately fulfill its purpose and successfully execute its mandate are mainly sourced through a combination of contributions from States Parties, donor funding from various multilateral organisations and returns on the investment of the Endowment Fund.
