A great group shot of the FTI Consulting team at the annual Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum in Kalgoorlie this week. Andrew Bantock, Travis Barnett, Shane Murphy, Jane Munday, Michael Pollastri and David Scallan were in attendance.   Some key themes we took away from the conference: 1. Equity capital markets remain tough, particularly for resources companies not in production. This has been obvious for a while, but the conference certainly did nothing to indicate things would change soon. The divide between valuations for producers vs developers remains wide, particularly in gold. 2. The clamour for more M&A was loud and clear. Market participants and the financial media are keen for deals to happen, and no doubt many a quiet discussion was had. Australia, being the very leaky market it is, meant rumours swirled amongst resources and financial media as a result (and in the odd better or worse-informed post on online forums). 3. Government participation in commodities deemed critical, or required to face global strategic competition demands, is here to stay. This was very much the theme of the keynote speaker, Hon. Kim Beazley AC. It seems certain that Western governments do not plan to abandon their recently found interest in providing funding for projects meeting the requisite definitions any time soon. More astute (or cynical?) observers noted that much of the government interest in critical minerals so far has been long on "announceables” and short on dollars spent on project construction. 4. FTI Consulting is pleased to have provided strategic communications advice to marine and subsea solutions company MMA Offshore Limited on its acquisition by Cyan Renewables, a Singapore-based company owned by Seraya Partners. The AU$1.07 billion acquisition is the region’s largest take-private deal in the offshore wind energy services industry to date. The acquisition of MMA provides Cyan with vessels and maritime services expertise to strengthen its presence in APAC, and to increase its participation in the offshore wind industry. FTI’s Strategic Communications team in Perth provided stakeholder communications and media engagement support in the lead-up to the offer being announced through to implementation.
