The biggest opportunity for fashion brands in Australia is so often overlooked… Did you know the average size of females in Australia is 16-18? Size inclusivity is a massive problem still when shopping online. There are so many brands not serving the average size, let alone the full range up to size 30. This is why brands like Proud Poppy Clothing, Orange Sherbet and Leina & Fleur | Australian Made Womenswear have been able to thrive. They serve more customers than many major brands. The focus on listening to their customer rather than chasing their competitors is clear. Whether you are a size 6 or 24, there is nothing more frustrating than clicking around looking for your size. There is room for growth for fashion brands serving the majority AND getting size curve demand right! I am seeing firsthand the lost profit opportunities with incorrect size curves, that ad impression and click costs money for customers to be left disappointed that you are out of stock of their size! Then growth is further inhibited by serving the minority group of sizes. Any other great Australian brands I should know about, sizing for the majority not the minority?

A bit about me... 1) My career path: I realised my passion for working with and helping people when I began in retail / fashion customer service. I received an email yesterday from Inside Retail Australia letting me know I’ve been nominated for the Top 50 People in ecommerce. I hadn’t entered so thank you to whoever nominated me (not Tom which was my first thought). Very honoured. A few years ago I had a bit of a run in the Top 50. This pic is from 2019 where I was named #1 but I was in hospital having just had my first bub Woody so couldn’t make the event, but Heather McIlvaine sent me this fab picture with lots of familiar faces! I didn’t enter last year because I believe you should only enter if you’ve done something that’s worthy of the spot. Last year I was in the trenches in Snuggle Hunny building foundations for future SH. Whilst super important input is only as valuable as the output. This year we’re still firmly in said trenches but also reaping the rewards for this foundational work so I will take the nudge and complete the submission. Again thanks to whoever thought I was worthy of a spot. Now I have an ask. Part of the submission is to submit a 50 word recommendation from someone in the industry. I am sure I could find someone to write some lovely words but I’d rather submit something where I’ve genuinely left a lasting impression (hopefully a good one). If you would like to give me a recommendation please do message me or even put it in the comments - I’m a pretty open book. You might have worked with me, or even heard me speak and been inspired, or maybe you’ve been a supplier/ partner. I’m not looking for industry stalwarts here; this could be anyone. With the twice yearly four-day Afterpay Day sale taking place earlier this month, thousands of retailers across Australia took advantage of the “buy now pay later” online service, and according to Afterpay, revenue grew by more than 23% in the 2023 sale. It’s been called the “gateway drug to debt” for young people, and whilst it appears helpful at the beginning, it’s incredibly easy to get into a downward debt spiral. In case you missed it; Kinora had the opportunity to speak with part of the Brain's Trust at My Plan Manager on Cybersecurity concerns for NDIS (small) businesses this week. And for those who are time poor; TLDR - Cybersecurity comes down to: 1. Knowing exactly what you're protecting i.e. do mini-audits of all your data/information and where it's stored, regularly. 2. Have robust internal policies and procedures on how to manage said data and make sure your staff know these inside and out. 3. For support, templates and in times of breach, go to the Industry experts for FREE and un-biased advice, the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and many others. It is a hard time to be a retailer in Australia 😥 Monthly inflation rose 3.6% in the 12 months to April Retail sales grew at a fraction of the inflation rate to April Consumer discretionary spending is down Users of buy now, pay later services are set to undergo credit checks Consumers are depending more on discounts and promotions From 1 July the National Minimum Wage will increase by 3.75% From 1 July the superannuation guarantee rate is increasing 0.5% to 11.5% So it is no surprise to retailers that GDP only grew 0.1% in the March quarter. Retailers are struggling as a result and now is the time to get creative and innovate. What are you doing as a retailer to push through the tough times? This is an incredible breakdown by Carla Penn-Kahn from Profit Peak. People often talk about the lack of talent in market in certain specialism's, however what I've observed as lacking more is the ability of break things down in the way that Carla has done below. Most businesses use revenue as a pretty significant yard stick for performance in their businesses. This helps not only the focus on the commercial team but the business can build a reward / commission model to help incentivise the achievement of revenue targets. Often tactics are used to help stimulate more revenue, what is regularly overlooked is how that tactic cascades through the business. What impact outside of driving revenue does the tactic have, does it involve discounts, freebies, additional work - all of this adds up. After all there's a reason for the saying "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" #profitability #criticalthinking #ecommerce #acquisition #retention

This is a high-flex structure that includes chapters, tribes and squads. 🥤 “I’ve drunk the agile Kool-aid,” she said. 😄 ⚡ One of the main changes brought about by agile is the empowerment of every team member to take action. “In agile, everyone is a doer,” says Tania. ⚠ This transition challenged some middle managers who were accustomed to being decision-makers and gatekeepers. However, in the agile model, everyone contributes expertise and collaboratively makes decisions. 🛍 For example, “it used to be that the product team would create something and then blame the marketing team if it didn’t sell.” (sound familiar? 😅) Now, teams collectively determine customer needs based on the data available and strategise how best to meet them.
