Climate Solutions | Energy Markets | Policy | Science Communication
Accelerating action on climate change is the biggest challenge for our generation. To date, I’ve focused on Australian climate policy and energy market analytics to help do so.
Through my work at Aurora Energy Research and Grattan Institute, I’ve worked across the energy and transport sectors on issues spanning renewable energy, green manufacturing, and ways to reduce congestion in cities.
Underpinning my work has been rigorous data analysis, often using the R statistical programming language.
While my work draws heavily on economics, I studied a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) with Concurrent Diploma of Mathematics at the University of Melbourne. During my degree, I undertook a period of study at Oxford University on using private enterprise to solve environmental problems such as climate change. This experience fostered my interest in economics, while reaffirming my desire to use my career to bring down emissions and ensure a more sustainable future for subsequent generations.

Start with steel: A practical plan to support carbon workers and cut emissions
Grattan Institute
Australia has an historic opportunity to create a multi-billion-dollar, export-focused manufacturing sector based on globally competitive renewable energy. Positioning ourselves to take advantage of this opportunity provides workers in carbon-intensive industries with a natural hedge against declining demand for their products.

Right time, right place, right price: A practical plan for congestion charging in Sydney and Melbourne
Grattan Institute
Drivers should be charged $5 to enter the Sydney and Melbourne CBDs in the morning peak and another $5 to exit in the afternoon peak, as part of a package of reforms to make our biggest cities work better. The scheme would reduce the number of cars entering the CBDs each morning by about 40 per cent.

Why it's time for congestion charging: Better ways to manage busy urban roads
Grattan Institute
Australia's capital cities should join many of the great cities of the world by charging drivers who use the busiest roads at the busiest times.

Remarkably adaptive: Australian cities in a time of growth
Grattan Institute
Australia's urban commuters have little to fear from population growth, if recent experience is any guide. Contrary to frequent media reports, the population boom has had little impact on commuting. Yet existing congestion remains a problem, which governments can address cheaply by facilitating the natural adaptations people make.
