Many geologists are familiar with the traditional method of geotechnical core description by writing descriptions on paper. Like them, I find this traditional process inconvenient, time-consuming, and repetitive, requiring multiple steps to convert the information into a digital format. This led me to search for user-friendly software to enhance work efficiency. Eventually, I came across TabLogs and had the opportunity to speak with the developers, Liam O'Brien and Zachary Tempany. They were very willing and supportive, offering me a chance to trial the software for free. Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude on this occasion. During the trial period, I used the software for geotechnical engineering core descriptions. Overall, it helped reduce work time and increased efficiency across the board, though it is necessary to weigh the benefits against the cost of investment. I have summarized the pros and cons of this technology as follows: 1. Reduces resource usage and redundant tasks, such as using paper, writing and drawing repeatedly, and entering data into the system, etc. 2. Reduces workflow steps, such as scanning documents and copying them into the database, etc. 3. Increases work efficiency, such as the number of tasks per unit of time and standardized work outcomes. 4. User-friendly, flexible, and can be used simultaneously by multiple users on both tablets and web apps. Although it is an easy-to-use tool, there are some minor limitations regarding the Borehole Document Template and user tutorials for some tools. However, users can request guidance from the creators, ensuring successful task completion. In summary, with its compatibility with geotechnical core description standards and the aforementioned reasons, TabLogs is an efficient tool that can be adapted for use in geological engineering core sample descriptions.
