Last week the kids at the Derby Youth School Holidays program were blessed with some basketball fun from Perth Wildcats player Keanu Pinder as well as new basketballs, provided by Rio Tinto! The Shire of Derby West Kimberley extends its heartfelt gratitude to Rio Tinto for their unwavering support of our young community members. By providing essential resources, skills, and opportunities, Rio Tinto has empowered our youth to navigate life more effectively, make positive decisions, explore career pathways, and thrive in safe environments. We also want to acknowledge the tremendous effort Rio Tinto has put into helping us celebrate Derby's very own NBL superstar, Keanu Pinder. Currently a powerhouse forward for the Perth Wildcats, Keanu has played basketball not just in Europe but all over the world, and he was selected to represent the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Summer League. As a proud Derby native, Keanu's achievements have shone a spotlight on our community. Keanu Pinder is a remarkable role model for our young people and his journey demonstrates that despite the isolation we may sometimes feel in Derby, hard work, discipline, and dedication can lead to extraordinary accomplishments. Keanu has inspired our youth to dream big and see beyond the boundaries of Australia. His success has truly opened their eyes to a world of possibilities.
