We're proud to be the official health partner of 36 Months, and we support their push to help protect the mental health of young people by delaying the legal age teenagers can sign up for social media. We're pleased to see the government has announced they are introducing legislation that will support this initiative -- an important next step in helping young people's wellbeing.

Bricks and mortar hospitals will always play an important role in the health system, but expensive acute hospitals should not be the only option. We know many patients want to be treated in the comfort of their own home and it frees up precious beds for those that really need it. Today we released the results of a Medibank commissioned KPMG report. In 2030, 350,000 patients could be treated in the home instead of a hospital, substituting up to 1.2 million bed days and saving up to $1 billion. The report looked closely at SA Health’s My Home Hospital service and the work @chrispicton and his team are delivering to the community, a prime example of emerging models being embraced to support the economic and patient needs of the health system.  https://lnkd.in/gK6BSwUn MedibankCalvary Amplar Health Joint Venture Sarah McRae Amplar Health Chris Picton

Home hospitals are already proving to ease pressure on our hospital system – and today we announced a commissioned KPMG report that sheds light on just how much more they could do with wider adoption. In 2030, 350,000 patients could be treated in the home instead of a hospital, substituting up to 1.2 million physical bed days and saving up to $1 billion. As part of the health transition, we’re calling for a significant expansion of home hospitals across the nation, not just because of the economic benefits but most importantly, because patients want more access, choice and control in where and how they receive their healthcare.   #healthcare #healthtransition https://lnkd.in/gjVBHGhS

Medibank is calling for a significant expansion of hospital care in the home across Australia to alleviate pressure on the healthcare system. A new KPMG Australia report commissioned by Medibank reveals the incredible potential of hospital care in the home, highlighting: Cost savings: Up to $1 billion in healthcare costs and $6.4 billion in capital expenditure by 2030 Improved access: Around 350,000 patients could receive hospital-level care in their home in 2030 Enhanced care: Hospital care in the home offers quality care comparable to traditional hospitals, with lower risks of hospital-acquired complications and high patient satisfaction Hospital care in the home replicates the level of care provided in traditional ‘bricks and mortar’ hospitals, providing acute care to patients in the comfort of their own homes using a combination of technological interventions and direct face-to-face care by doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. Medibank CEO David Koczkar welcomed the report, which responds to calls from patients for more ‘in-home’ care. “Australia is currently over-reliant on traditional inpatient care settings at the expense of access and choice for patients. There is a health transition underway and we are trailing behind many other countries when it comes to the uptake of more fit-for-purpose and economically sustainable models of care,” Mr Koczkar said. “Bricks and mortar hospitals will always play an important role in the health system, but expensive acute hospitals should not be the only option. We know patients want the option to be treated in the comfort of their own home and it frees up precious beds for those that really need it. Care decisions between a patient and their doctor should be driven by choice, rather than the lack of it.” Read the News Room article here: https://lnkd.in/gxHZ28aE
