Lotterywest

With available profits from every Lotterywest lotto ticket sold going back to the WA community, last financial year we were able to return $373 million back to the WA community through our grants program. This return saw 375 Western Australian not-for-profit groups and local governments benefit from 411 direct Lotterywest grants, totaling $125 million. These were delivered alongside more than $248 million in statutory grants (Health, Arts and Sport). None of this would have been possible without the support of our Lotterywest partner retail network of over 480 small businesses, and the WA community who play Lotterywest games. Because, with a little bit of lotto, we can all add a lot of hope to everyone living in WA.

Lotterywest welcomes Michelle Tremain and June Moorhouse to the Lotterywest Board for three-year appointments. Ms Tremain and Ms Moorhouse are both highly respected in their fields, with expertise across the Business Arts, Culture and Community Services sectors. It’s fantastic to have two new members with such diverse and extensive experience join the Lotterywest Board. Ms Tremain and Ms Moorhouse will replace Mr Steve Carre OAM and Hon. Jim McGinty AM who are retiring from Lotterywest’s Board after serving for 10 and 6 years respectively. Lotterywest would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank Steve and Jim for their long-standing commitment and contribution to Lotterywest.

Introducing: Reflect Kaditj. This artwork commemorates our 2024-25 Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. Staff were invited to collaborate on the piece with artist Biara Martin, the artwork encompasses meaningful individual designs of Noongar language and symbols and staff aspirations for a connected future. The final artwork was unveiled by Jess Lang our Diversity & Inclusion Consultant.

Lotterywest CEO, Colin Smith, and Lorna Pritchard (General Manager Grants and Community Development) joined Reconciliation WA for the 2024 Reconciliation Breakfast on Monday and, alongside The Hon Roger Cook MLA, presented Reconciliation WA with a Lotterywest grant. This grant is supporting Reconciliation WA's multitude of National Reconciliation Week 2024 events which facilitate community participation in the reconciliation movement. #NRW2024 #NationalReconciliationWeek #NowMoreThanEver

We were so proud to see our Powerballin’ campaign be awarded Best of Year Television Campaign, Radio Advertisement, and Integrated Campaign at the 2024 Campaign Brief Awards.  It’s no small task creating a new campaign for such an established, well-loved game, and alongside our creative agency 303 MullenLowe we were able to create a campaign that redefined what it means to win Powerball; taking the superyachts from Powerball Problems to superhumans in Powerballin’. Research showed us that our players associated winning Powerball not with “becoming rich”, but with having a pure, unprecedented freedom to live life on their own terms – to do the things that nobody would dream of doing in their regular lives. This is where the inspiration for our Powerballin’ superhumans came in. Local WA talent is a highlight of this campaign, with a custom 90-second rap from local Noongar rap artist, Flewnt, and skating expertise from 87-year-old Winnie! Whilst these three awards recognise our campaign creatively, it’s also worth celebrating that since the launch of our Powerballin' campaign, Powerball has contributed $150 million to the WA community via Lotterywest grants.

On Monday we officially welcomed Colin Smith as the new CEO of Lotterywest and Healthway . Colin was given a warm welcome with morning tea and the opportunity to share a bit about himself and the experience he brings to Lotterywest and Healthway. We’re looking forward to working with Colin to make a positive community impact in Western Australia.

Last week our CEO Jeremy Hubble, attended the RSLWA ANZAC Day March on St Georges Tce alongside Hon Roger Cook MLA. The March was one of many services by RSLWA to remember the contribution of our ANZACs and all Australian service personnel who have served and continue to serve to defend our nation. Lest we forget. A $1.5 million Lotterywest grant supported RSLWA with more than 90 Anzac Day services around the state, including Dawn Service at Kings Park and the All-Abilities Sunset Service.

On the last day of Noongar season Bunuru, Lotterywest and Healthway staff joined those who have helped guide our reconciliation journey, to celebrate the official launch of our Reconciliation Action Plan. The team from Kambarang Services started the celebration, Danny Ford with a personal Welcome to Country. Rosemary Walley and Jonathon Ford spoke to the Aboriginal heritage of WA and the Noongar connection with Boodja (country.) Artist Biara Martin talked about her artwork ‘Expansion’, designed for Lotterywest and Healthway, which is now proudly displayed in our Board Room. Reconciliation WA CEO, Jody Nunn, spoke about the continuous steps we need to take to implement our initiatives. Aboriginal dance troupe DiDj Dancing, performed engaging Aboriginal dances, accompanied by didjeridu music. Bush tucker was provided by Aboriginal-owned caterer Gather Foods and staff collaborated on a developing piece of art facilitated by Biara. Lotterywest staff attended Danjoo Koorliny Walking Together Social Impact Summit, held in Kaarta Koomba (King's Park) during the season of Bunuru. The Summit's immersive experience brought together diverse thought leaders, change-makers, artists, and innovators from across Western Australia, with the key themes Survival, Resilience and Strength. A Lotterywest grant of $5.7M is supporting the Danjoo Koorliny project to create a platform for truth-telling and build a legacy of social change to promote understanding, reconciliation and respect between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in WA.
