Can you imagine a dog that follows all your commands? 🐶 How about a dog with a customizable coat color and special features? Sure thing! Meet Spot, the fully automated robot from Boston Dynamics. Our partner Smart Inspection recently brought Spot to our facilities in Ulm and Vöhringen, Germany, to test its potential in challenging industrial environments. Our test had two major goals: to evaluate mobility on tricky surfaces and to verify autonomous capabilities during routine inspections. Spot excelled at both, effortlessly navigating industrial terrain, and performing self-guided patrols.

What's as big as 35 soccer fields and will provide 8%* of the electricity used by all our plants in Germany? 🌞 Easy – it is our new solar park, one of the largest ones in southern Germany, and an important milestone in our transition to a sustainable future. 💚 With the start of the new financial year this October, we have put our solar park in Erbach, located five kilometers from our Ulm headquarters, into operation. Erwin Mayr, CEO of the Wieland Group, reports: “The solar park in Erbach is an important milestone in achieving our aspirational sustainability goals. The energy generated there will enable us to reduce the Wieland Group's global CO2 emissions from purchased energy by more than two percent." We will look at more facts and figures on renewable energy production and sustainability at Wieland over the next few weeks. We've had a big idea recently: Inspect millions of parts, week after week, without a single error. 🔎 Sounds tough? Not for our experts who are driving digital transformation at Wieland. Our solution is powered by AI and driven by innovation. Wieland has always set the highest quality standards. But reflective copper surfaces have made inspections a real challenge. Together with our partner Capgemini, we developed an AI-based computer vision system to solve this problem. This deep learning model not only automates visual inspection but also continuously improves itself by learning with every piece it inspects. So far, the results have been impressive. More than 50 products are now ideal candidates for #AutomaticInspection, with more than 20 inspection cells ready for digital upgrades.
