#July Featured Study of the Month 🎯 In the global race for talent, which countries within Europe and beyond have demonstrated the most effective ways to attract and retain international talent? The ICMPD study on ‘Cultivating Talent’, commissioned by the Migration Partnership Facility, analyses countries that have turned challenges into opportunities, fine-tuning their strategies to attract and retain talent to their labour markets. 📌 The analysed countries for the study are: Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, Australia and Canada. Countries need essential labour from abroad, yet the appeal of a location to global talent hinges beyond career prospects: 📌 An OECD report from 2023 highlighted that attracting talent also needs to factor in the international workers’ desire for high-quality of life, inclusiveness, relaxed tax rates, and family-friendly societies. These underscore the necessity of adopting a strategic and all-encompassing approach to talent policy. 🔗 Read our Featured Study of the Month in collaboration with ICMPD's Migration Partnership Facility and discover the gaps, opportunities, and policy recommendations for the EU to attract international talent and fuel its future: https://lnkd.in/dkv-2sjV 💡 What is the Featured Study of the Month? #InFocus 🌍 In the past year alone, Cabo Verde saw a steep increase in migrant arrivals on boats, mostly aiming for the Canary Islands. For a country of just over half-million, Cabo Verde’s Local Immigration Units (ULIs) have become agents for the safety of these migrants and integrating those who stay. Ivan Rocha, a Local Officer of the São Vincente ULI, shared: 💬 "When sheltering the migrants, we mobilised the leaders of the Malian [migrant] community, who communicated with and provided a sense of comfort and safety to those who just arrived. This was important, as we were dealing with minors and young adolescents." 📌 The ULIs were established in December 2021 under the Strengthening Migrant Integration through Cooperation between Portugal and Cabo Verde (Coop4Int) project, and funded by the EU through ICMPD's Migration Partnership Facility (MPF). 🔗 Explore more about how the Local Immigration Units serve as anchors in Cabo Verde migration landscape and the experience of local officers: https://lnkd.in/dAMTAq6Y Carmem Barros Furtado Sharmarke Ahmed Jennifer Tangney Laura Zorrilla Fernandez #MPF #MigrationPartnershipFacility #CaboVerde #LocalImmigrationUnits #EU

The Migration Podcast 🎙️ Labour and skills shortage in EU Member States is on the rise. Thus, it is important to take stock of the policy directions on migration and, more importantly, understand what this means for people. This includes those seeking to reach Europe, those welcoming them, those questioning where we are headed, and those who have the potential to enrich the region's ability to sustain its future. In the last episode of The Migration Podcast, Hugo Brady, ICMPD Senior Strategic Advisor shared: 💬 "For the very first time, you have European countries saying, we will attract millions of workers. So you have this seeming paradox." 💬 "The question is, will this change the politics of migration? Will it change what people expect to hear from their politicians on migration?" 💬 "Migration is a very good thing, especially when managed correctly, it can be a very harmonious thing for society. I am so fascinated to see how the conversation will develop over the next couple of years.” In the latest episode of The Migration Podcast, Hugo Brady and Martin Wagner discuss key events, policy directions, challenges, and opportunities migration presents to the EU. 🎧 Tune in: https://lnkd.in/dm6kU-fP ▶️ Watch on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dphj_5DU #Migration #MigrationManagement #EU #Labour #LabourMigration #RECsProject ICMPD Policy & Research
