The correct algorithm on the event reconstruction of events, which determines the position and energy of neutrino interactions in the detector, are essential for the physics analysis of the data from the experiment. Therefore, the performance of the event reconstruction is carefully checked with calibrations using $^{252}$Cf source. This manuscript describes the methodology and the performance of the event reconstruction.

We have achieved 95$\%$ rejection of neutron events while keeping 90$\%$ of signal, electron-like events using a data driven likelihood method.

We report an extensive high-sensitivity search for axion dark matter above 1\,GHz at the Center for Axion and Precision Physics Research (CAPP). The cavity resonant search, exploiting the coupling between axions and photons, explored the frequency (mass) range of 1.025\,GHz (4.24\,$μ$eV) to 1.185\,GHz (4.91\,$μ$eV). We have introduced a number of innovations in this field, demonstrating the practical approach of optimizing all the relevant parameters of axion haloscopes, extending presently available technology. The CAPP 12\,T magnet with an aperture of 320\,mm made of Nb$_3$Sn and NbTi superconductors surrounding a 37-liter ultralight-weight copper cavity is expected to convert DFSZ axions into approximately $10^2$ microwave photons per second. A powerful dilution refrigerator, capable of keeping the core system below 40\,mK, combined with quantum-noise limited readout electronics, achieved a total system noise of about 200\,mK or below, which corresponds to a background of roughly $4\times 10^3$ photons per second within the axion bandwidth. The combination of all those improvements provides unprecedented search performance, imposing the most stringent exclusion limits on axion--photon coupling in this frequency range to date. These results also suggest an experimental capability suitable for highly-sensitive searches for axion dark matter above 1\,GHz.

The axion has emerged as the most attractive solution to two fundamental questions in modern physics related to the charge-parity invariance in strong interactions and the invisible matter component of our universe. Over the past decade, there have been many theoretical efforts to constrain the axion mass based on various cosmological assumptions. Interestingly, different approaches from independent groups produce good overlap between 20 and 30 μeV. We performed an experimental search to probe the presence of dark matter axions within this particular mass region. The experiment utilized a multi-cell cavity haloscope embedded in a 12 T magnetic field to seek for microwave signals induced by the axion-photon coupling. The results ruled out the KSVZ axions as dark matter over a mass range between 21.86 and 22.00 μeV at a 90% confidence level. This represents a sensitive experimental search guided by specific theoretical predictions

The measurements have been performed at forward and backward rapidity ($1.4<|η|<2.4$) over the range of $1.5<p_{T}<7.0~{\rm GeV}/c$ and $0.04<|x_{F}|<0.2$. A nonzero asymmetry is observed for positively charged hadrons at forward rapidity ($x_F>0$) in $p^{\uparrow}$+$p$ collisions, whereas the $p^{\uparrow}$+Al and $p^{\uparrow}$+Au results show smaller asymmetries. This finding provides new opportunities to investigate the origin of transverse single-spin asymmetries and a tool to study nuclear effects in $p$+$A$ collisions.

The plausible mass (frequency) range of the QCD axion as a dark matter candidate spans from ueV to meV (O(GHz) to O(THz)). The axion haloscope using a resonant cavity has provided the most sensitive search method in the microwave region. However, experimental searches have been limited to relatively low mass regions mainly due to the reduced cavity volume at high masses. As an effective approach for high-mass axion searches, a unique cavity design, featured by multiple identical cells divided by equidistant thin metal partitions in a single cylindrical cavity, was proposed and successfully demonstrated. We perform an in-depth study to characterize the multiple-cell cavity design and discuss the various advantages it offers for high-mass axion searches.

Polarized proton-proton collisions provide leading-order access to gluons, presenting an opportunity to constrain gluon spin-momentum correlations within transversely polarized protons and enhance our understanding of the three-dimensional structure of the proton. Midrapidity open-heavy-flavor production at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV is dominated by gluon-gluon fusion, providing heightened sensitivity to gluon dynamics relative to other production channels. Transverse single-spin asymmetries of positrons and electrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays are measured at midrapidity using the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These charge-separated measurements are sensitive to gluon correlators that can in principle be related to gluon orbital angular momentum via model calculations. Explicit constraints on gluon correlators are extracted for two separate models, one of which had not been constrained previously.

Small nuclear collisions are mainly sensitive to cold-nuclear-matter effects; however, the collective behavior observed in these collisions shows a hint of hot-nuclear-matter effects. The identified-particle spectra, especially the $φ$ mesons which contain strange and antistrange quarks and have a relatively small hadronic-interaction cross section, are a good tool to study these effects. The PHENIX experiment has measured $φ$ mesons in a specific set of small collision systems $p$$+$Al, $p$$+$Au, and $^3$He$+$Au, as well as $d$$+$Au [Phys. Rev. C {\bf 83}, 024909 (2011)], at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. The transverse-momentum spectra and nuclear-modification factors are presented and compared to theoretical-model predictions. The comparisons with different calculations suggest that quark-gluon plasma may be formed in these small collision systems at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. However, the volume and the lifetime of the produced medium may be insufficient for observing strangeness-enhancement and jet-quenching effects. Comparison with calculations suggests that the main production mechanisms of $φ$ mesons at midrapidity may be different in $p$$+$Al versus $p/d/$$^3$He$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. While thermal quark recombination seems to dominate in $p/d/$$^3$He$+$Au collisions, fragmentation seems to be the main production mechanism in $p$$+$Al collisions.

We present measurements of the cross section and double-helicity asymmetry $A_{LL}$ of direct-photon production in $\vec{p}+\vec{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=510$ GeV. The measurements have been performed at midrapidity ($|η|<0.25$) with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. At relativistic energies, direct photons are dominantly produced from the initial quark-gluon hard scattering and do not interact via the strong force at leading order. Therefore, at $\sqrt{s}=510$ GeV, where leading-order-effects dominate, these measurements provide clean and direct access to the gluon helicity in the polarized proton in the gluon-momentum-fraction range $0.02<x<0.08$, with direct sensitivity to the sign of the gluon contribution.

Results of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ measurements in the dimuon decay channel are presented here for $p$$+$$p$, $p$$+$Al, and $p$$+$Au collision systems at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. The results are predominantly shown in the form of the nuclear-modification factor, $R_{pA}$, the ratio of the $ψ(2S)$ invariant yield per nucleon-nucleon collision in collisions of proton on target nucleus to that in $p$$+$$p$ collisions. Measurements of the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ nuclear-modification factor are compared with shadowing and transport-model predictions, as well as to complementary measurements at Large-Hadron-Collider energies.

The pions were detected at central rapidities of $|η|<0.35$. The single-spin asymmetries are consistent with zero for each charge individually, as well as consistent with the previously published neutral-pion asymmetries in the same rapidity range. However, they show a slight indication of charge-dependent differences which may suggest a flavor dependence in the underlying mechanisms that create these asymmetries.

Before dedicated data taking in the first-half of 2021, we performed a commissioning run for 10 days in June 2020. Using the data obtained in this commissioning run, in this paper, we present an estimate of the correlated background which imitates the $\barν_{e}$ signal in a sterile neutrino search. In addition, in order to demonstrate future prospects of the JSNS$^2$ experiment, possible pulse shape discrimination improvements towards reducing cosmic ray induced fast neutron background are described.

Measurements were performed with different centrality selections as well as the total inelastic, 0%--100%, selection for all collision systems. For 0%--100% collisions, the nuclear modification factors, $R_{xA}$, are consistent with unity for $p_T$ above 8 GeV/$c$, but exhibit an enhancement in peripheral collisions and a suppression in central collisions. The enhancement and suppression characteristics are similar for all systems for the same centrality class. It is shown that for high-$p_T$-$π^0$ production, the nucleons in the $d$ and $^3$He interact mostly independently with the Au nucleus and that the counter intuitive centrality dependence is likely due to a physical correlation between multiplicity and the presence of a hard scattering process. These observations disfavor models where parton energy loss has a significant contribution to nuclear modifications in small systems. Nuclear modifications at lower $p_T$ resemble the Cronin effect -- an increase followed by a peak in central or inelastic collisions and a plateau in peripheral collisions. The peak height has a characteristic ordering by system size as $p$$+$Au $>$ $d$$+$Au $>$ $^{3}$He$+$Au $>$ $p$$+$Al. For collisions with Au ions, current calculations based on initial state cold nuclear matter effects result in the opposite order, suggesting the presence of other contributions to nuclear modifications, in particular at lower $p_T$.

A study of initial-state gluon radiation (ISR) in hadron collisions is presented using Drell-Yan (DY) events produced in proton-antiproton collisions by the Tevatron collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. This paper adopts a novel approach which uses the mean value of the Z/$γ^*$ transverse momentum $<p_T^{DY}>$ in DY events as a powerful observable to characterize the effect of ISR. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.4 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the CDF Run II detector, $<p_T^{DY}>$ is measured as a function of the Z/$γ^*$ invariant mass. It is found that these two observables have a dependence, $<p_T^{DY}> = -8 + 2.2 \ln m_{DY}^2$ [GeV/c], where $m_{DY}$ is the value of the Z/$γ^*$ mass measured in units of GeV/$c^2$. This linear dependence is observed for the first time in this analysis. It may be exploited to model the effect of ISR and constrain its impact in other processes.

In 2015 the PHENIX collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider recorded $p$$+$$p$, $p$$+$Al, and $p$$+$Au collision data at center of mass energies of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV with the proton beam(s) transversely polarized. At very forward rapidities $η>6.8$ relative to the polarized proton beam, neutrons were detected either inclusively or in (anti)correlation with detector activity related to hard collisions. The resulting single spin asymmetries, that were previously reported, have now been extracted as a function of the transverse momentum of the neutron as well as its longitudinal momentum fraction $x_F$. The explicit kinematic dependence, combined with the correlation information allows for a closer look at the interplay of different mechanisms suggested to describe these asymmetries, such as hadronic interactions or electromagnetic interactions in ultra-peripheral collisions, UPC. Events that are correlated with a hard collision indeed display a mostly negative asymmetry that increases in magnitude as a function of transverse momentum with only little dependence on $x_F$. In contrast, events that are not likely to have emerged from a hard collision display positive asymmetries for the nuclear collisions with a kinematic dependence that resembles that of a UPC based model. Because the UPC interaction depends strongly on the charge of the nucleus, those effects are very small for $p$$+$$p$ collisions, moderate for $p$$+$Al collisions, and large for $p$$+$Au collisions.

There is strong evidence for the formation of small droplets of quark-gluon plasma in $p/d/^{3}$He+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and in $p$+$p$/Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. In particular, the analysis of data at RHIC for different geometries obtained by varying the projectile size and shape has proven insightful. In the present analysis, we find excellent agreement with the previously published PHENIX at RHIC results on elliptical and triangular flow with an independent analysis via the two-particle correlation method, which has quite different systematic uncertainties and an independent code base. In addition, the results are extended to other detector combinations with different kinematic (pseudorapidity) coverage. These results provide additional constraints on contributions from nonflow and longitudinal decorrelations.

At the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) collider, high-mass electron-neutrino ($eν$) pairs are produced predominantly in the process $p \bar{p} \rightarrow W(\rightarrow eν) + X$. The asymmetry of the electron and positron yield as a function of their pseudorapidity constrain the slope of the ratio of the $u$- to $d$-quark parton distributions versus the fraction of the proton momentum carried by the quarks. This paper reports on the measurement of the electron-charge asymmetry using the full data set recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 2001--2011 and corresponding to 9.1~fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. The measurement significantly improves the precision of the Tevatron constraints on the parton-distribution functions of the proton. Numerical tables of the measurement are provided.

The $CP$-violating phase and lifetime parameters of the $B^0_s$ system are measured to be $φ_s=0.00\pm0.28\pm0.07$ rad, $ΔΓ_s=0.115\pm0.045\pm0.011$ ps$^{-1}$ and $Γ_s=0.608\pm0.018\pm0.012$ ps$^{-1}$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This is the first time that $CP$-violating parameters are measured in the $B^0_s\to J/ψφ$ decay with an $e^+e^-$ pair in the final state. The results are consistent with previous measurements in other channels and with the Standard Model predictions.

The $D^0$ meson is required to originate from a $D^*(2010)^+ \to D^0 π^+$ decay, such that its flavour at production is identified by the charge of the accompanying pion. The slope of the time-dependent asymmetry of the decay rates of $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ mesons into the final states under consideration is measured to be $ΔY_{K^+ K^-} = (-2.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-4}$, $ΔY_{π^+ π^-} = (-4.0 \pm 2.8 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are compatible with the conservation of the charge-parity symmetry at the level of 2 standard deviations and improve the precision by nearly a factor of two.

We consider the effects of bound atomic electrons scattered by solar neutrinos due to the electromagnetic properties of neutrinos. This necessiate considering the recoil of atomic nucleus, which should be considered in the momentum conservation, but that effect to the energy conservation is negligible. This effect changes the kinematic behavior of the scattered electron compared to that scattered on free electrons. We apply this effect to the recent XENON1T data, but the bounds obtained from this is not very restrictive. We obtained the bounds: the (transition) magnetic moment $|f_{αβ}|\le 0.86\times 10^{-7}$ (times the electron Bohr magneton) and the charge radius $|\tilde{r}|< 4.30\times 10^{-17\,}{\rm cm}$. For a non-vanishing millicharge ($\varepsilon$), the allowed bound is shown in the $\tilde{r}^2-\varepsilon$ plane.

The JSNS^2 (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) experiment aims to search for oscillations involving a sterile neutrino in the eV^2 mass-splitting range. The experiment will search for the appearance of electron antineutrinos oscillated from muon antineutrinos. The electron antineutrinos are detected via the inverse beta decay process using a liquid scintillator detector. A 1MW beam of 3 GeV protons incident on a spallation neutron target produces an intense and pulsed neutrino source from pion, muon, and kaon decay at rest. The JSNS^2 detector is located 24 m away from the neutrino source and began operation from June 2020. The detector contains 17 tonnes of gadolinium (Gd) loaded liquid scintillator (LS) in an acrylic vessel, as a neutrino target. It is surrounded by 31 tonnes of unloaded LS in a stainless steel tank. Optical photons produced in LS are viewed by 120 R7081 Hamamatsu 10-inch Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs). In this paper, we describe the JSNS^2 detector design, construction, and operation.

The first search for the doubly heavy $\itΩ_{bc}^{\rm0}$ baryon and a search for $\itΞ_{bc}^{\rm0}$ baryon are performed using $pp$ collision data collected via the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of $13TeV$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2$fb^{-1}$. The baryons are reconstructed via their decays to $\it{Λ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$ and $\it{Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$. No significant excess is found for invariant masses between 6700 and 7300$MeV/c^2$, in a rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and a transverse momentum range from 2 to 20$GeV/c$. Upper limits are set on the ratio of the $\itΩ_{bc}^{\rm0}$ and $\itΞ_{bc}^{\rm0}$ production cross-section times the branching fraction to $\it{Λ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$ ($\it{Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$) relative to that of the $\it{Λ_b^{\rm0}}$ ($\it{Ξ_b^{\rm0}}$) baryon, for different lifetime hypotheses, at $95\%$ confidence level. The upper limits range from $0.5\times10^{-4}$ to $2.5\times10^{-4}$ for the $\itΩ_{bc}^{\rm0}\rightarrow\it{Λ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$ ($\itΞ_{bc}^{\rm0}\rightarrow\it{Λ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$) decay, and from $1.4\times10^{-3}$ to $6.9\times10^{-3}$ for the $\itΩ_{bc}^{\rm0}\rightarrow\it{Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$ ($\itΞ_{bc}^{\rm0}\rightarrow\it{Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$) decay, depending on the considered mass and lifetime of the $\itΩ_{bc}^{\rm0}$ ($\itΞ_{bc}^{\rm0}$) baryon.

This Letter reports the first measurement of prompt $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ charmonium production in nuclear collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies. The cross-section ratio $σ(χ_{c2}) / σ(χ_{c1})$ is measured in $p$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 8.16 TeV, collected with the LHCb experiment. The $χ_{c1,2}$ states are reconstructed via their decay to a $\rm{J}/ψ$ meson, subsequently decaying into a pair of oppositely charged muons, and a photon, which is reconstructed in the calorimeter or via its conversion in the detector material. The cross-section ratio is consistent with unity in the two considered rapidity regions. Comparison with a corresponding cross-section ratio previously measured by the LHCb collaboration in $pp$ collisions suggests that $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ states are similarly affected by nuclear effects occurring in $p$Pb collisions.

The ratio of the $B^0_s$ and $B^0$ fragmentation fractions, $f_s/f_d$, in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, is obtained as a function of $B$-meson transverse momentum and collision centre-of-mass energy from the combined analysis of different $B$-decay channels measured by the LHCb experiment. The results are described by a linear function of the meson transverse momentum, or with a function inspired by Tsallis statistics. Precise measurements of the branching fractions of the $B^0_s \to J/ψφ$ and $B^0_s \to D^-_s π^+$ decays are performed, reducing their uncertainty by about a factor of two with respect to previous world averages. Numerous $B^0_s$ decay branching fractions, measured at the LHCb experiment, are also updated using the new values of $f_s/f_d$ and branching fractions of normalisation channels. These results reduce a major source of systematic uncertainty in several searches for new physics performed through measurements of $B^0_s$ branching fractions.

The analysis is carried out using proton-proton collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The most significant state, $Z_{cs}(4000)^+$, has a mass of $4003\pm6\,^{+\,\phantom{0}4}_{-\,14}$ MeV, a width of $131\pm15\pm26$ MeV, and spin-parity $J^P=1^+$, where the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. A new $1^+$ $X(4685)$ state decaying to the $J/ψφ$ final state is also observed with high significance. In addition, the four previously reported $J/ψφ$ states are confirmed and two more exotic states, $Z_{cs}(4220)^+$ and $X(4630)$, are observed with significance exceeding five standard deviations.

Studying spin-momentum correlations in hadronic collisions offers a glimpse into a three-dimensional picture of proton structure. The transverse single-spin asymmetry for midrapidity isolated direct photons in $p^\uparrow+p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV is measured with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Because direct photons in particular are produced from the hard scattering and do not interact via the strong force, this measurement is a clean probe of initial-state spin-momentum correlations inside the proton and is in particular sensitive to gluon interference effects within the proton. This is the first time direct photons have been used as a probe of spin-momentum correlations at RHIC. The uncertainties on the results are a fifty-fold improvement with respect to those of the one prior measurement for the same observable, from the Fermilab E704 experiment. These results constrain gluon spin-momentum correlations in transversely polarized protons.

For the first time, the full set of CP-averaged angular observables is measured in intervals of the dimuon invariant mass squared. Local deviations from Standard Model predictions are observed, similar to those in previous LHCb analyses of the isospin-partner $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast0}μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decay. The global tension is dependent on which effective couplings are considered and on the choice of theory nuisance parameters.

The CP asymmetry is measured to be $0.025 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.006 \pm 0.003$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to an external input, respectively. This is the most precise measurement of the CP asymmetry in the decay $B^{+} \rightarrow K^{+} π^{0}$ and exceeds the precision on the current world average. This direct CP asymmetry is a key input to studies of a long-standing anomaly in $B$ meson decays, known as the $Kπ$-puzzle. The asymmetry is consistent with the previous measurements of this quantity, confirming and significantly enhancing the observed anomalous difference between the direct CP asymmetries of the $B^{0} \rightarrow K^{+} π^{-}$ and $B^{+} \rightarrow K^{+} π^{0}$ decays.

This article describes the goal and expected sensitivity of the JSNS$^2$-II experiment at J-PARC Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF). The JSNS$^2$-II experiment is the second phase of the JSNS$^2$ experiment (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) with two detectors which are located in 24 m (an existing detector) and 48 m (new one) baselines to improve the sensitivity of the search for sterile neutrinos, especially in the low $Δm^2$ region, which has been indicated by the global fit of the appearance mode. The new second detector has a similar structure as the existing JSNS$^2$ detector, which is already working. To compensate for the reduction of the neutrino flux due to the distance from the mercury target, the target mass of the Gd-loaded liquid scintillator which is the Linear AlkylBenzene (LAB) based liquid scintillator inside the acrylic vessel is 35 tons. To keep the same photo-coverage of the detector as the first detector, we will surround the acrylic vessel with 240 PMTs. With this experimental setup and 5 years (times 1 MW beam power) exposure, the sensitivity of the JSNS$^2$-II is significantly improved compared to the current JSNS$^2$, especially in the low $Δm^2$ oscillation parameter region. The JSNS$^2$-II can also confirm or refute the most of the oscillation parameters' space preferred by the previous experiments with 3 sigma C.L.. Considering these situations and world wide status of the sterile neutrino searches, we are eager to start the data taking with the two detector configuration from 2023. The fund to build the second detector was already secured.

Decays of the $D^*$ meson to the $Dπ^0$ and $Dγ$ final states are partially reconstructed without inclusion of the neutral pion or photon. Decays of the $D$ meson are reconstructed in the $K^\pm π^\mp$, $K^+K^-$, and $π^+π^-$ final states. The analysis uses a sample of charged $B$ mesons produced in proton-proton collisions and collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.0, 1.0, and 5.7 fb$^{-1}$ taken at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, respectively. The measurements of partially reconstructed $B^\pm \to D^* K^\pm$ and $B^\pm \to D^* π^\pm$ with $D \to K^\mp π^\pm$ decays are the first of their kind, and a first observation of the $B^\pm \to (D π^0)_{D^*} π^\pm$ decay is made with a significance of 6.1 standard deviations. All $C\!P$ observables are measured with world-best precision, and in combination with other LHCb results will provide strong constraints on the CKM angle $γ$.

The rare decay $K_L \!\to\! π^0 ν\overlineν$ was studied with the dataset taken at the J-PARC KOTO experiment in 2016, 2017, and 2018. With a single event sensitivity of $( 7.20 \pm 0.05_{\rm stat} \pm 0.66_{\rm syst} ) \times 10^{-10}$, three candidate events were observed in the signal region. After unveiling them, contaminations from $K^{\pm}$ and scattered $K_L$ decays were studied, and the total number of background events was estimated to be $1.22 \pm 0.26$. We conclude that the number of observed events is statistically consistent with the background expectation. For this dataset, we set an upper limit of $4.9 \times 10^{-9}$ on the branching fraction of $K_L \!\to\! π^0 ν\overlineν$ at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract:
The time-dependent $CP$ asymmetries of $B^0\to π^+π^-$ and $B^0_\mathrm{s}\!\to K^+K^-$ decays are measured using a data sample of $pp$ collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The decay $B_s^0 \to D_s^-μ^+ν_μ$, where $D_s^-$ is reconstructed in the final state $K^+K^-π^-$, is used as a normalization channel to minimize the experimental systematic uncertainty. Theoretical calculations on the form factors of the $B_s^0 \to K^-$ and $B_s^0 \to D_s^-$ transitions are employed to determine the ratio of the CKM matrix elements ${|V_{ub}|}/{|V_{cb}|}$ at low and high $B_s^0 \to K^-$ momentum transfer.

The search is performed using $5.4$ fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. Three mechanisms of production of long-lived particles are considered: the direct pair production from quark interactions, the pair production from the decay of a Standard-Model-like Higgs boson with a mass of $125$ GeV/c$^2$, and the charged current production from an on-shell $W$ boson with an additional lepton. No evidence of these long-lived states is obtained and upper limits on the production cross-section times branching fraction are set on the different production modes.

In 2015, the PHENIX collaboration has measured very forward ($η>6.8$) single-spin asymmetries of inclusive neutrons in transversely polarized proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at a center of mass energy of 200 GeV. A previous publication from this data set concentrated on the nuclear dependence of such asymmetries. In this measurement the explicit transverse-momentum dependence of inclusive neutron single spin asymmetries for proton-proton collisions is extracted using a bootstrapping-unfolding technique on the transverse momenta. This explicit transverse-momentum dependence will help improve the understanding of the mechanisms that create these asymmetries.

We present a measurement of the transverse single-spin asymmetry for $π^0$ and $η$ mesons in $p^\uparrow$$+$$p$ collisions in the pseudorapidity range $|η|<0.35$ and at a center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. In comparison with previous measurements in this kinematic region, these results have a factor of 3 smaller uncertainties. As hadrons, $π^0$ and $η$ mesons are sensitive to both initial- and final-state nonperturbative effects for a mix of parton flavors. Comparisons of the differences in their transverse single-spin asymmetries have the potential to disentangle the possible effects of strangeness, isospin, or mass. These results can constrain the twist-3 trigluon collinear correlation function as well as the gluon Sivers function.

No structure on the invariant mass distribution of the $\varLambda^+_c K^+$ system is found, consistent with no open-charm pentaquark signature.

A time-dependent amplitude analysis is performed to extract the $CP$-violating weak phase $γ-2β_s$ and, subsequently, $γ$ by taking the $B^0_s$-$\bar{B}^0_s$ mixing phase $β_{s}$ as an external input. The measurement yields $γ= (44 \pm 12)^\circ$ modulo $180^\circ$, where statistical and systematic uncertainties are combined. An alternative model-independent measurement, integrating over the five-dimensional phase space of the decay, yields $γ= (44^{\,+\,20}_{\,-\,13})^\circ$ modulo $180^\circ$. Moreover, the $B^0_s$-$\bar{B}^0_s$ oscillation frequency is measured from the flavour-specific control channel $B^0_s \rightarrow D_s^- π^+ π^+ π^-$ to be $Δm_s = (17.757 \pm 0.007 \,({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.008 \,({\rm syst.})) \text{ps}^{-1}$, consistent with and more precise than the current world-average value.

A new excited $D_s^+$ meson is observed decaying into the $D^+K^+π^-$ final state with large statistical significance. The pole mass and width, and the spin-parity of the new state are measured with an amplitude analysis to be $m_R=2591\pm6\pm7\,{\rm MeV}$, $Γ_R=89\pm16\pm12\,{\rm MeV}$ and $J^P=0^-$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Fit fractions for all components in the amplitude analysis are also reported. The new resonance, denoted as $D_{s0}(2590)^+$, is a strong candidate to be the $D_s(2^1{S}_0)^+$ state, the radial excitation of the pseudoscalar ground-state $D_s^+$ meson.

Upper limits on the coupling of a heavy neutrino with the Standard Model neutrino are set at $95\%$ confidence level in the heavy-neutrino mass range from 5 to $50 \text{ GeV}/c^2$. These are of the order of $10^{-3}$ for lepton-number-conserving decays and of the order of $10^{-4}$ for lepton-number-violating heavy-neutrino decays.
