Recognizing overlapping speech from multiple speakers in conversational scenarios is one of the most challenging problem for automatic speech recognition (ASR). Serialized output training (SOT) is a classic method to address multi-talker ASR, with the idea of concatenating transcriptions from multiple speakers according to the emission times of their speech for training. However, SOT-style transcriptions, derived from concatenating multiple related utterances in a conversation, depend significantly on modeling long contexts. Therefore, compared to traditional methods that primarily emphasize encoder performance in attention-based encoder-decoder (AED) architectures, a novel approach utilizing large language models (LLMs) that leverages the capabilities of pre-trained decoders may be better suited for such complex and challenging scenarios. In this paper, we propose an LLM-based SOT approach for multi-talker ASR, leveraging pre-trained speech encoder and LLM, fine-tuning them on multi-talker dataset using appropriate strategies. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach surpasses traditional AED-based methods on the simulated dataset LibriMix and achieves state-of-the-art performance on the evaluation set of the real-world dataset AMI, outperforming the AED model trained with 1000 times more supervised data in previous works.

Radio map is an efficient demonstration for visually displaying the wireless signal coverage within a certain region. It has been considered to be increasingly helpful for the future sixth generation (6G) of wireless networks, as wireless nodes are becoming more crowded and complicated. However, the construction of high resolution radio map is very challenging due to the sparse sampling in practical systems. Generative artificial intelligence (AI), which is capable to create synthetic data to fill in gaps in real-world measurements, is an effective technique to construct high precision radio maps. Currently, generative models for radio map construction are trained with two-dimension (2D) single band radio maps in urban scenario, which has poor generalization in diverse terrain scenarios, spectrum bands, and heights. To tackle this problem, we provide a multiband three-dimension (3D) radio map dataset with consideration of terrain and climate information, named SpectrumNet. It is the largest radio map dataset in terms of dimensions and scale, which contains the radio map of 3 spacial dimensions, 5 frequency bands, 11 terrain scenarios, and 3 climate scenarios. We introduce the parameters and settings for the SpectrumNet dataset generation, and evaluate three baseline methods for radio map construction based on the SpectrumNet dataset. Experiments show the necessity of the SpectrumNet dataset for training models with strong generalization in spacial, frequency, and scenario domains. Future works on the SpectrumNet dataset are also discussed, including the dataset expansion and calibration, as well as the extended studies on generative models for radio map construction based on the SpectrumNet dataset.

Fourier Ptychographic Microscopy (FPM) is a computational imaging technique that enables high-resolution imaging over a large field of view. However, its application in the biomedical field has been limited due to the long image reconstruction time and poor noise robustness. In this paper, we propose a fast and robust FPM reconstruction method based on physical neural networks with batch update stochastic gradient descent (SGD) optimization strategy, capable of achieving attractive results with low single-to-noise ratio and correcting multiple system parameters simultaneously. Our method leverages a random batch optimization approach, breaks away from the fixed sequential iterative order and gives greater attention to high-frequency information. The proposed method has better convergence performance even for low signal-to-noise ratio data sets, such as low exposure time dark-field images. As a result, it can greatly increase the image recording and result reconstruction speed without any additional hardware modifications. By utilizing advanced deep learning optimizers and perform parallel computational scheme, our method enhances GPU computational efficiency, significantly reducing reconstruction costs. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves near real-time digital refocusing of a 1024 x 1024 pixels region of interest on consumer-grade GPUs. This approach significantly improves temporal resolution (by reducing the exposure time of dark-field images), noise resistance, and reconstruction speed, and therefore can efficiently promote the practical application of FPM in clinical diagnostics, digital pathology, and biomedical research, etc. In addition, we believe our algorithm scheme can help researchers quickly validate and implement FPM-related ideas. We invite requests for the full code via email.

The reconstruction of high-quality shape geometry is crucial for developing freehand 3D ultrasound imaging. However, the shape reconstruction of multi-view ultrasound data remains challenging due to the elevation distortion caused by thick transducer probes. In this paper, we present a novel learning-based framework RoCoSDF, which can effectively generate an implicit surface through continuous shape representations derived from row-column scanned datasets. In RoCoSDF, we encode the datasets from different views into the corresponding neural signed distance function (SDF) and then operate all SDFs in a normalized 3D space to restore the actual surface contour. Without requiring pre-training on large-scale ground truth shapes, our approach can synthesize a smooth and continuous signed distance field from multi-view SDFs to implicitly represent the actual geometry. Furthermore, two regularizers are introduced to facilitate shape refinement by constraining the SDF near the surface. The experiments on twelve shapes data acquired by two ultrasound transducer probes validate that RoCoSDF can effectively reconstruct accurate geometric shapes from multi-view ultrasound data, which outperforms current reconstruction methods. With the increasing complexity of real-world systems and varying environmental uncertainties, it is difficult to build an accurate dynamic model, which poses challenges especially for safety-critical control. In this paper, a learning-based control policy is proposed to ensure the safety of systems with unknown disturbances through control barrier functions (CBFs). First, the disturbance is predicted by Gaussian process (GP) regression, whose prediction performance is guaranteed by a deterministic error bound. Then, a novel control strategy using GP-based parameterized high-order control barrier functions (GP-P-HOCBFs) is proposed via a shrunk original safe set based on the prediction error bound. In comparison to existing methods that involve adding strict robust safety terms to the HOCBF condition, the proposed method offers more flexibility to deal with the conservatism and the feasibility of solving quadratic problems within the CBF framework. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulations on Franka Emika manipulator.

Early detection of dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), is essential to enable timely intervention and potential treatment. Accurate detection of AD/MCI is challenging due to the high complexity, cost, and often invasive nature of current diagnostic techniques, which limit their suitability for large-scale population screening. Given the shared embryological origins and physiological characteristics of the retina and brain, retinal imaging is emerging as a potentially rapid and cost-effective alternative for the identification of individuals with or at high risk of AD. In this paper, we present a novel PolarNet+ that uses retinal optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to discriminate early-onset AD (EOAD) and MCI subjects from controls. Our method first maps OCTA images from Cartesian coordinates to polar coordinates, allowing approximate sub-region calculation to implement the clinician-friendly early treatment of diabetic retinopathy study (ETDRS) grid analysis. We then introduce a multi-view module to serialize and analyze the images along three dimensions for comprehensive, clinically useful information extraction. Finally, we abstract the sequence embedding into a graph, transforming the detection task into a general graph classification problem. A regional relationship module is applied after the multi-view module to excavate the relationship between the sub-regions. Such regional relationship analyses validate known eye-brain links and reveal new discriminative patterns.

The future sixth-generation (6G) of wireless networks is expected to surpass its predecessors by offering ubiquitous coverage through integrated air-ground facility deployments in both communication and computing domains. In this network, aerial facilities, such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), conduct artificial intelligence (AI) computations based on multi-modal data to support diverse applications including surveillance and environment construction. However, these multi-domain inference and content generation tasks require large AI models, demanding powerful computing capabilities, thus posing significant challenges for UAVs. To tackle this problem, we propose an integrated edge-cloud model evolution framework, where UAVs serve as edge nodes for data collection and edge model computation. Through wireless channels, UAVs collaborate with ground cloud servers, providing cloud model computation and model updating for edge UAVs. With limited wireless communication bandwidth, the proposed framework faces the challenge of information exchange scheduling between the edge UAVs and the cloud server. To tackle this, we present joint task allocation, transmission resource allocation, transmission data quantization design, and edge model update design to enhance the inference accuracy of the integrated air-ground edge-cloud model evolution framework by mean average precision (mAP) maximization. A closed-form lower bound on the mAP of the proposed framework is derived, and the solution to the mAP maximization problem is optimized accordingly. Simulations, based on results from vision-based classification experiments, consistently demonstrate that the mAP of the proposed framework outperforms both a centralized cloud model framework and a distributed edge model framework across various communication bandwidths and data sizes.

Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) are capable of handling diverse data types such as imaging, text, and physiological signals, and can be applied in various fields. In the medical field, LVLMs have a high potential to offer substantial assistance for diagnosis and treatment. Before that, it is crucial to develop benchmarks to evaluate LVLMs' effectiveness in various medical applications. Current benchmarks are often built upon specific academic literature, mainly focusing on a single domain, and lacking varying perceptual granularities. Thus, they face specific challenges, including limited clinical relevance, incomplete evaluations, and insufficient guidance for interactive LVLMs. To address these limitations, we developed the GMAI-MMBench, the most comprehensive general medical AI benchmark with well-categorized data structure and multi-perceptual granularity to date. It is constructed from 285 datasets across 39 medical image modalities, 18 clinical-related tasks, 18 departments, and 4 perceptual granularities in a Visual Question Answering (VQA) format. Additionally, we implemented a lexical tree structure that allows users to customize evaluation tasks, accommodating various assessment needs and substantially supporting medical AI research and applications. We evaluated 50 LVLMs, and the results show that even the advanced GPT-4o only achieves an accuracy of 52%, indicating significant room for improvement. Moreover, we identified five key insufficiencies in current cutting-edge LVLMs that need to be addressed to advance the development of better medical applications. We believe that GMAI-MMBench will stimulate the community to build the next generation of LVLMs toward GMAI.

This paper considers networked sensing in cellular network, where multiple base stations (BSs) first compress their received echo signals from multiple targets and then forward the quantized signals to the cloud via limited-capacity backhaul links, such that the cloud can leverage all useful echo signals to perform high-resolution localization. Under this setup, we manage to characterize the posterior Cramer-Rao Bound (PCRB) for localizing all the targets as a function of the transmit covariance matrix and the compression noise covariance matrix of each BS. Then, a PCRB minimization problem subject to the transmit power constraints and the backhaul capacity constraints is formulated to jointly design the BSs' transmission and compression strategies. We propose an efficient algorithm to solve this problem based on the alternating optimization technique. Specifically, it is shown that when either the transmit covariance matrices or the compression noise covariance matrices are fixed, the successive convex approximation technique can be leveraged to optimize the other type of covariance matrices locally. Numerical results are provided to verify the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm.

The first part of this series introduced the effectiveness of frequency diverse array (FDA) jamming through direct wave propagation in countering airborne phased multiple-input multiple-output (Phased-MIMO) radar. This part focuses on the effectiveness of FDA scattered wave (FDA-SW) jamming on the space-time adaptive processing (STAP) for airborne phased-MIMO radar. Distinguished from the clutter signals, the ground equidistant scatterers of FDA-SW jamming constitute an elliptical ring, whose trajectory equations are mathematically derived to further determine the spatial frequency and Doppler frequency. For the phased-MIMO radar with different transmitting partitions, the effects of jamming frequency offset of FDA-SW on the clutter rank and STAP performance are discussed. Theoretical analysis provides the variation interval of clutter rank and the relationship between the jamming frequency offset and the improvement factor (IF) notch of phased-MIMO-STAP. Importantly, the requirements of jamming frequency offset for both two-part applications are discussed in this part. Numerical results verify these mathematical findings and validate the effectiveness of the proposed FDA jamming in countering the phased-MIMO radar.

The combination of frequency diverse array (FDA) radar technology with the multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar architecture and waveform diversity techniques potentially promises a high integration gain with respect to conventional phased array (PA) radars. In this paper, we propose an approach to the design of the transmitter and the receiver of a coherent FDA (C-FDA) radar, that enables it to perform the demodulation with spectral overlapping, due to the small frequency offset. To this purpose, we derive the generalized space-time-range signal model and we prove that the proposed C-FDA radar has a higher coherent array gain than a PA radar, and at the same time, it effectively resolves the secondary range-ambiguous (SRA) problem of FDA-MIMO radar, allowing for mainlobe interference suppression and range-ambiguous clutter suppression. Numerical analysis results prove the effectiveness of the proposed C-FDA radar in terms on anti-interference and anti-clutter capabilities over conventional radars.

Due to circuit failures, defective elements that cannot adaptively adjust the phase shifts of their impinging signals in a desired manner may exist on an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). Traditional way to find these defective IRS elements requires a thorough diagnosis of all the circuits belonging to a huge number of IRS elements, which is practically challenging. In this paper, we will devise a novel approach under which a transmitter sends known pilot signals and a receiver localizes all the defective IRS elements just based on its over-the-air measurements reflected from the IRS. The key lies in the fact that the over-the-air measurements at the receiver side are functions of the set of defective IRS elements. Based on this observation, we propose a bisection based method to localize all the defective IRS elements. Specifically, at each time slot, we properly control the desired phase shifts of all the IRS elements such that half of the considered regime that is not useful to localize the defective elements can be found based on the received signals and removed. Via numerical results, it is shown that our proposed bisection method can exploit the over-the-air measurements to localize all the defective IRS elements quickly and accurately.

Massive multi-modality datasets play a significant role in facilitating the success of large video-language models. However, current video-language datasets primarily provide text descriptions for visual frames, considering audio to be weakly related information. They usually overlook exploring the potential of inherent audio-visual correlation, leading to monotonous annotation within each modality instead of comprehensive and precise descriptions. Such ignorance results in the difficulty of multiple cross-modality studies. To fulfill this gap, we present MMTrail, a large-scale multi-modality video-language dataset incorporating more than 20M trailer clips with visual captions, and 2M high-quality clips with multimodal captions. Trailers preview full-length video works and integrate context, visual frames, and background music. In particular, the trailer has two main advantages: (1) the topics are diverse, and the content characters are of various types, e.g., film, news, and gaming. (2) the corresponding background music is custom-designed, making it more coherent with the visual context. Upon these insights, we propose a systemic captioning framework, achieving various modality annotations with more than 27.1k hours of trailer videos. Here, to ensure the caption retains music perspective while preserving the authority of visual context, we leverage the advanced LLM to merge all annotations adaptively. In this fashion, our MMtrail dataset potentially paves the path for fine-grained large multimodal-language model training. In experiments, we provide evaluation metrics and benchmark results on our dataset, demonstrating the high quality of our annotation and its effectiveness for model training.

Industrial companies have increasingly adopted NB-IoT as the solution for mMTC due to its lightweight design and comprehensive technical specifications released by 3GPP. This paper presents a system-level simulation framework for NB-IoT networks to evaluate their performance. The system-level simulator is structured into four parts: initialization, pre-generation, main simulation loop, and post-processing. Additionally, three essential features are investigated to enhance coverage, support massive connections, and ensure low power consumption, respectively. The accurate diagnosis of pathological subtypes of lung cancer is of paramount importance for follow-up treatments and prognosis managements. Assessment methods utilizing deep learning technologies have introduced novel approaches for clinical diagnosis. However, the majority of existing models rely solely on single-modality image input, leading to limited diagnostic accuracy. To this end, we propose a novel deep learning network designed to accurately classify lung cancer subtype with multi-dimensional and multi-modality images, i.e., CT and pathological images. The strength of the proposed model lies in its ability to dynamically process both paired CT-pathological image sets as well as independent CT image sets, and consequently optimize the pathology-related feature extractions from CT images. This adaptive learning approach enhances the flexibility in processing multi-dimensional and multi-modality datasets and results in performance elevating in the model testing phase. We also develop a contrastive constraint module, which quantitatively maps the cross-modality associations through network training, and thereby helps to explore the "gold standard" pathological information from the corresponding CT scans. To evaluate the effectiveness, adaptability, and generalization ability of our model, we conducted extensive experiments on a large-scale multi-center dataset and compared our model with a series of state-of-the-art classification models. The experimental results demonstrated the superiority of our model for lung cancer subtype classification, showcasing significant improvements in accuracy metrics such as ACC, AUC, and F1-score.

We raise the Open-Set Speaker-Identification task, which is designed to either match a probe utterance with a known gallery speaker or categorize it as an unknown query. Associated with this task, we design concrete benchmark and evaluation protocols. The data and model resources can be found in http://voxblink2.github.io.

Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) is a non-invasive anticancer modality that utilizes alternating electric fields to disrupt cancer cell division and growth. While generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects, traditional TTFields therapy for lung tumors faces challenges due to the influence of respiratory motion. We design a novel closed-loop TTFields strategy for lung tumors by incorporating electrical impedance tomography (EIT) for real-time respiratory phase monitoring and dynamic parameter adjustments. Furthermore, we conduct theoretical analysis to evaluate the performance of the proposed method using the lung motion model. Compared to conventional TTFields settings, we observed that variations in the electrical conductivity of lung during different respiratory phases led to a decrease in the average electric field intensity within lung tumors, transitioning from end-expiratory (1.08 V/cm) to end-inspiratory (0.87 V/cm) phases. Utilizing our proposed closed-Loop TTFields approach at the same dose setting (2400 mA, consistent with the traditional TTFields setting), we can achieve a higher and consistent average electric field strength at the tumor site (1.30 V/cm) across different respiratory stages. Our proposed closed-loop TTFields method has the potential to improved lung tumor therapy by mitigating the impact of respiratory motion.

The orthogonal bases of discrete Fourier transform (DFT) has been recognized as the standard spatial-domain bases for Type I, Type II and enhanced Type II codewords by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). For uniform planar arrays, these spatial-domain bases are derived as the Kronecker product of one-dimensional DFT bases. Theoretically, each spatial basis corresponds to a beam directed towards a specific angle of departure and the set of bases represent the orthogonal beams that cover the front hemisphere of an array. While the Kronecker-product based precoding scheme facilitates the concise indexing of a codeword in the codebooks through precoding matrix indicators (PMIs) in channel state information feedback, it introduces redundant spatial beams characterized by high spatial-frequency components. This paper investigates the presence of codewords representing high spatial-frequency components within the Kronecker-product based codebooks. Through theoretical analysis and simulations, we confirm the redundancy of these codewords in MIMO communications, advocating for their removal from the codebooks to enhance system performance. Several topics relevant to the high spatial components are also involved in the discussion. Practical suggestions regarding future standard design are provided based on our theoretical analysis and simulation results.

Speaker adaptation, which involves cloning voices from unseen speakers in the Text-to-Speech task, has garnered significant interest due to its numerous applications in multi-media fields. Despite recent advancements, existing methods often struggle with inadequate speaker representation accuracy and overfitting, particularly in limited reference speeches scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose an Agile Speaker Representation Reinforcement Learning strategy to enhance speaker similarity in speaker adaptation tasks. ASRRL is the first work to apply reinforcement learning to improve the modeling accuracy of speaker embeddings in speaker adaptation, addressing the challenge of decoupling voice content and timbre. Our approach introduces two action strategies tailored to different reference speeches scenarios. In the single-sentence scenario, a knowledge-oriented optimal routine searching RL method is employed to expedite the exploration and retrieval of refinement information on the fringe of speaker representations. In the few-sentence scenario, we utilize a dynamic RL method to adaptively fuse reference speeches, enhancing the robustness and accuracy of speaker modeling. To achieve optimal results in the target domain, a multi-scale fusion scoring mechanism based reward model that evaluates speaker similarity, speech quality, and intelligibility across three dimensions is proposed, ensuring that improvements in speaker similarity do not compromise speech quality or intelligibility. The experimental results on the LibriTTS and VCTK datasets within mainstream TTS frameworks demonstrate the extensibility and generalization capabilities of the proposed ASRRL method. The results indicate that the ASRRL method significantly outperforms traditional fine-tuning approaches, achieving higher speaker similarity and better overall speech quality with limited reference speeches.

Recent years have witnessed a trend that large language model (LLM) based text-to-speech (TTS) emerges into the mainstream due to their high naturalness and zero-shot capacity. In this paradigm, speech signals are discretized into token sequences, which are modeled by an LLM with text as prompts and reconstructed by a token-based vocoder to waveforms. Obviously, speech tokens play a critical role in LLM-based TTS models. Current speech tokens are learned in an unsupervised manner, which lacks explicit semantic information and alignment to the text. In this paper, we propose to represent speech with supervised semantic tokens, which are derived from a multilingual speech recognition model by inserting vector quantization into the encoder. Based on the tokens, we further propose a scalable zero-shot TTS synthesizer, CosyVoice, which consists of an LLM for text-to-token generation and a conditional flow matching model for token-to-speech synthesis. Experimental results show that supervised semantic tokens significantly outperform existing unsupervised tokens in terms of content consistency and speaker similarity for zero-shot voice cloning. Moreover, we find that utilizing large-scale data further improves the synthesis performance, indicating the scalable capacity of CosyVoice. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to involve supervised speech tokens into TTS models.

This report introduces FunAudioLLM, a model family designed to enhance natural voice interactions between humans and large language models (LLMs). At its core are two innovative models: SenseVoice, which handles multilingual speech recognition, emotion recognition, and audio event detection; and CosyVoice, which facilitates natural speech generation with control over multiple languages, timbre, speaking style, and speaker identity. SenseVoice-Small delivers exceptionally low-latency ASR for 5 languages, and SenseVoice-Large supports high-precision ASR for over 50 languages, while CosyVoice excels in multi-lingual voice generation, zero-shot in-context learning, cross-lingual voice cloning, and instruction-following capabilities. The models related to SenseVoice and CosyVoice have been open-sourced on Modelscope and Huggingface, along with the corresponding training, inference, and fine-tuning codes released on GitHub. By integrating these models with LLMs, FunAudioLLM enables applications such as speech-to-speech translation, emotional voice chat, interactive podcasts, and expressive audiobook narration, thereby pushing the boundaries of voice interaction technology. Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) offers optical contrast, whereas magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) excels in imaging soft tissue and organ anatomy. The fusion of PAT with MRI holds promising application prospects due to their complementary advantages. Existing image fusion have made considerable progress in pre-registered images, yet spatial deformations are difficult to avoid in medical imaging scenarios. More importantly, current algorithms focus on visual quality and statistical metrics, thus overlooking the requirements of high-level tasks. To address these challenges, we proposes a unsupervised fusion model, termed PAMRFuse+, which integrates image generation and registration. Specifically, a cross-modal style transfer network is introduced to simplify cross-modal registration to single-modal registration. Subsequently, a multi-level registration network is employed to predict displacement vector fields. Furthermore, a dual-branch feature decomposition fusion network is proposed to address the challenges of cross-modal feature modeling and decomposition by integrating modality-specific and modality-shared features. PAMRFuse+ achieves satisfactory results in registering and fusing unaligned PAT-MRI datasets. Moreover, for the first time, we evaluate the performance of medical image fusion with contour segmentation and multi-organ instance segmentation. Extensive experimental demonstrations reveal the advantages of PAMRFuse+ in improving the performance of medical image analysis tasks.

In pulmonary tracheal segmentation, the scarcity of annotated data is a prevalent issue in medical segmentation. Additionally, Deep Learning (DL) methods face challenges: the opacity of 'black box' models and the need for performance enhancement. Our Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) based models (RS_UNet, LC_UNet, UUNet, and WD_UNet) address these challenges by combining diverse query strategies with various DL models. We train four HCI models and repeat these steps: (1) Query Strategy: The HCI models select samples that provide the most additional representative information when labeled in each iteration and identify unlabeled samples with the greatest predictive disparity using Wasserstein Distance, Least Confidence, Entropy Sampling, and Random Sampling. (2) Central line correction: Selected samples are used for expert correction of system-generated tracheal central lines in each training round. (3) Update training dataset: Experts update the training dataset after each DL model's training epoch, enhancing the trustworthiness and performance of the models. (4) Model training: The HCI model is trained using the updated dataset and an enhanced UNet version. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of these HCI-based approaches, showing that WD-UNet, LC-UNet, UUNet, and RS-UNet achieve comparable or superior performance to state-of-the-art DL models. Notably, WD-UNet achieves this with only 15%-35% of the training data, reducing physician annotation time by 65%-85%.

In recent years, extensive research has been conducted on the vulnerability of ASR systems, revealing that black-box adversarial example attacks pose significant threats to real-world ASR systems. However, most existing black-box attacks rely on queries to the target ASRs, which is impractical when queries are not permitted. In this paper, we propose ZQ-Attack, a transfer-based adversarial attack on ASR systems in the zero-query black-box setting. Through a comprehensive review and categorization of modern ASR technologies, we first meticulously select surrogate ASRs of diverse types to generate adversarial examples. Following this, ZQ-Attack initializes the adversarial perturbation with a scaled target command audio, rendering it relatively imperceptible while maintaining effectiveness. Subsequently, to achieve high transferability of adversarial perturbations, we propose a sequential ensemble optimization algorithm, which iteratively optimizes the adversarial perturbation on each surrogate model, leveraging collaborative information from other models. We conduct extensive experiments to evaluate ZQ-Attack. In the over-the-line setting, ZQ-Attack achieves a 100% success rate of attack (SRoA) with an average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 21.91dB on 4 online speech recognition services, and attains an average SRoA of 100% and SNR of 19.67dB on 16 open-source ASRs. For commercial intelligent voice control devices, ZQ-Attack also achieves a 100% SRoA with an average SNR of 15.77dB in the over-the-air setting.

Integrating prior knowledge of neurophysiology into neural network architecture enhances the performance of emotion decoding. While numerous techniques emphasize learning spatial and short-term temporal patterns, there has been limited emphasis on capturing the vital long-term contextual information associated with emotional cognitive processes. In order to address this discrepancy, we introduce a novel transformer model called emotion transformer (EmT). EmT is designed to excel in both generalized cross-subject EEG emotion classification and regression tasks. In EmT, EEG signals are transformed into a temporal graph format, creating a sequence of EEG feature graphs using a temporal graph construction module (TGC). A novel residual multi-view pyramid GCN module (RMPG) is then proposed to learn dynamic graph representations for each EEG feature graph within the series, and the learned representations of each graph are fused into one token. Furthermore, we design a temporal contextual transformer module (TCT) with two types of token mixers to learn the temporal contextual information. Finally, the task-specific output module (TSO) generates the desired outputs. Experiments on four publicly available datasets show that EmT achieves higher results than the baseline methods for both EEG emotion classification and regression tasks. The code is available at https://github.com/yi-ding-cs/EmT.

This study introduces a novel margin-enhanced joint energy model (MEJEM) tailored specifically for OOD detection in dialects. By integrating a generative model and the energy margin loss, our approach aims to enhance the robustness of dialect identification systems. Furthermore, we explore two OOD scores for OOD dialect detection, and our findings conclusively demonstrate that the energy score outperforms the softmax score. Leveraging Sharpness-Aware Minimization to optimize the training process of the joint model, we enhance model generalization by minimizing both loss and sharpness. Automatic lung organ segmentation on CT images is crucial for lung disease diagnosis. However, the unlimited voxel values and class imbalance of lung organs can lead to false-negative/positive and leakage issues in advanced methods. Additionally, some slender lung organs are easily lost during the recycled down/up-sample procedure, e.g., bronchioles & arterioles, causing severe discontinuity issue. Inspired by these, this paper introduces an effective lung organ segmentation method called Fuzzy Attention-based Border Rendering (FABR) network. Since fuzzy logic can handle the uncertainty in feature extraction, hence the fusion of deep networks and fuzzy sets should be a viable solution for better performance. Meanwhile, unlike prior top-tier methods that operate on all regular dense points, our FABR depicts lung organ regions as cube-trees, focusing only on recycle-sampled border vulnerable points, rendering the severely discontinuous, false-negative/positive organ regions with a novel Global-Local Cube-tree Fusion (GLCF) module. All experimental results, on four challenging datasets of airway & artery, demonstrate that our method can achieve the favorable performance significantly.

In this paper, we study the transmit signal optimization in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar system for sensing the angle information of multiple targets via their reflected echo signals. We consider a challenging and practical scenario where the angles to be sensed are unknown and random, while their probability information is known a priori for exploitation. First, we establish an analytical framework to quantify the multi-target sensing performance exploiting prior distribution information, by deriving the posterior Cramér-Rao bound (PCRB) as a lower bound of the mean-squared error (MSE) matrix in sensing multiple unknown and random angles. Then, we formulate and study the transmit sample covariance matrix optimization problem to minimize the PCRB for the sum MSE in estimating all angles. By leveraging Lagrange duality theory, we analytically prove that the optimal transmit covariance matrix has a rank-one structure, despite the multiple angles to be sensed and the continuous feasible range of each angle. Moreover, we propose a sum-of-ratios iterative algorithm which can obtain the optimal solution to the PCRB-minimization problem with low complexity. Numerical results validate our results and the superiority of our proposed design over benchmark schemes.

Deep learning has enabled great strides in abdominal multi-organ segmentation, even surpassing junior oncologists on common cases or organs. However, robustness on corner cases and complex organs remains a challenging open problem for clinical adoption. To investigate model robustness, we collected and annotated the RAOS dataset comprising 413 CT scans ($\sim$80k 2D images, $\sim$8k 3D organ annotations) from 413 patients each with 17 (female) or 19 (male) labelled organs, manually delineated by oncologists. We grouped scans based on clinical information into 1) diagnosis/radiotherapy (317 volumes), 2) partial excision without the whole organ missing (22 volumes), and 3) excision with the whole organ missing (74 volumes). RAOS provides a potential benchmark for evaluating model robustness including organ hallucination. It also includes some organs that can be very hard to access on public datasets like the rectum, colon, intestine, prostate and seminal vesicles. We benchmarked several state-of-the-art methods in these three clinical groups to evaluate performance and robustness. We also assessed cross-generalization between RAOS and three public datasets. In this paper, we propose a novel noisy label detection approach based on two new statistical metrics: Continuous Inconsistent Counting (CIC) and Total Inconsistent Counting (TIC). These metrics are calculated through Cross-Epoch Counting (CEC) and correspond to the early and late stages of training, respectively. Additionally, we categorize samples based on their prediction results into three categories: inconsistent samples, hard samples, and easy samples. During training, we gradually increase the difficulty of hard samples to update model parameters, preventing noisy labels from being overfitted. Compared to contrastive schemes, our approach not only achieves the best performance in speaker verification but also excels in noisy label detection.

Training speaker-discriminative and robust speaker verification systems without explicit speaker labels remains a persisting challenge. In this paper, we propose a new self-supervised speaker verification approach, Self-Distillation Prototypes Network (SDPN), which effectively facilitates self-supervised speaker representation learning. SDPN assigns the representation of the augmented views of an utterance to the same prototypes as the representation of the original view, thereby enabling effective knowledge transfer between the views. Originally, due to the lack of negative pairs in the SDPN training process, the network tends to align positive pairs very closely in the embedding space, a phenomenon known as model collapse. To alleviate this problem, we introduce a diversity regularization term to embeddings in SDPN. Comprehensive experiments on the VoxCeleb datasets demonstrate the superiority of SDPN in self-supervised speaker verification. SDPN sets a new state-of-the-art on the VoxCeleb1 speaker verification evaluation benchmark, achieving Equal Error Rate 1.80%, 1.99%, and 3.62% for trial VoxCeleb1-O, VoxCeleb1-E and VoxCeleb1-H respectively, without using any speaker labels in training.

Foley audio, critical for enhancing the immersive experience in multimedia content, faces significant challenges in the AI-generated content (AIGC) landscape. Despite advancements in AIGC technologies for text and image generation, the foley audio dubbing remains rudimentary due to difficulties in cross-modal scene matching and content correlation. Current text-to-audio technology, which relies on detailed and acoustically relevant textual descriptions, falls short in practical video dubbing applications. Existing datasets like AudioSet, AudioCaps, Clotho, Sound-of-Story, and WavCaps do not fully meet the requirements for real-world foley audio dubbing task. To address this, we introduce the Multi-modal Image and Narrative Text Dubbing Dataset (MINT), designed to enhance mainstream dubbing tasks such as literary story audiobooks dubbing, image/silent video dubbing. Besides, to address the limitations of existing TTA technology in understanding and planning complex prompts, a Foley Audio Content Planning, Generation, and Alignment (CPGA) framework is proposed, which includes a content planning module leveraging large language models for complex multi-modal prompts comprehension. Additionally, the training process is optimized using Proximal Policy Optimization based reinforcement learning, significantly improving the alignment and auditory realism of generated foley audio. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach significantly advances the field of foley audio dubbing, providing robust solutions for the challenges of multi-modal dubbing. Even when utilizing the relatively lightweight GPT-2 model, our framework outperforms open-source multimodal large models such as LLaVA, DeepSeek-VL, and Moondream2. In the field of multi-channel, multi-speaker Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), the task of discerning and accurately transcribing a target speaker's speech within background noise remains a formidable challenge. Traditional approaches often rely on microphone array configurations and the information of the target speaker's location or voiceprint. This study introduces the Solo Spatial Feature (Solo-SF), an innovative method that utilizes a target speaker's isolated speech segment to enhance ASR performance, thereby circumventing the need for conventional inputs like microphone array layouts. We explore effective strategies for selecting optimal solo segments, a crucial aspect for Solo-SF's success. Through evaluations conducted on the AliMeeting dataset and AISHELL-1 simulations, Solo-SF demonstrates superior performance over existing techniques, significantly lowering Character Error Rates (CER) in various test conditions. Our findings highlight Solo-SF's potential as an effective solution for addressing the complexities of multi-channel, multi-speaker ASR tasks.

Pre-trained speech language models such as HuBERT and WavLM leverage unlabeled speech data for self-supervised learning and offer powerful representations for numerous downstream tasks. Despite the success of these models, their high requirements for memory and computing resource hinder their application on resource restricted devices. Therefore, this paper introduces GenDistiller, a novel knowledge distillation framework which generates the hidden representations of the pre-trained teacher model directly by a much smaller student network. The proposed method takes the previous hidden layer as history and implements a layer-by-layer prediction of the teacher model autoregressively. Experiments on SUPERB reveal the advantage of GenDistiller over the baseline distilling method without an autoregressive framework, with 33% fewer parameters, similar time consumption and better performance on most of the SUPERB tasks. Ultimately, the proposed GenDistiller reduces the size of WavLM by 82%.

Learning-based approaches have witnessed great successes in blind single image super-resolution (SISR) tasks, however, handcrafted kernel priors and learning based kernel priors are typically required. In this paper, we propose a Meta-learning and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) based SISR approach to learn kernel priors from organized randomness. In concrete, a lightweight network is adopted as kernel generator, and is optimized via learning from the MCMC simulation on random Gaussian distributions. This procedure provides an approximation for the rational blur kernel, and introduces a network-level Langevin dynamics into SISR optimization processes, which contributes to preventing bad local optimal solutions for kernel estimation. Meanwhile, a meta-learning-based alternating optimization procedure is proposed to optimize the kernel generator and image restorer, respectively. In contrast to the conventional alternating minimization strategy, a meta-learning-based framework is applied to learn an adaptive optimization strategy, which is less-greedy and results in better convergence performance. These two procedures are iteratively processed in a plug-and-play fashion, for the first time, realizing a learning-based but plug-and-play blind SISR solution in unsupervised inference. Extensive simulations demonstrate the superior performance and generalization ability of the proposed approach when comparing with state-of-the-arts on synthesis and real-world datasets. Recently, there have been attempts to integrate various speech processing tasks into a unified model. However, few previous works directly demonstrated that joint optimization of diverse tasks in multitask speech models has positive influence on the performance of individual tasks. In this paper we present a multitask speech model -- PolySpeech, which supports speech recognition, speech synthesis, and two speech classification tasks. PolySpeech takes multi-modal language model as its core structure and uses semantic representations as speech inputs. We introduce semantic speech embedding tokenization and speech reconstruction methods to PolySpeech, enabling efficient generation of high-quality speech for any given speaker. PolySpeech shows competitiveness across various tasks compared to single-task models. In our experiments, multitask optimization achieves performance comparable to single-task optimization and is especially beneficial for specific tasks.

Recently proposed two-pass direct speech-to-speech translation (S2ST) models decompose the task into speech-to-text translation (S2TT) and text-to-speech (TTS) within an end-to-end model, yielding promising results. However, the training of these models still relies on parallel speech data, which is extremely challenging to collect. In contrast, S2TT and TTS have accumulated a large amount of data and pretrained models, which have not been fully utilized in the development of S2ST models. Inspired by this, in this paper, we first introduce a composite S2ST model named ComSpeech, which can seamlessly integrate any pretrained S2TT and TTS models into a direct S2ST model. Furthermore, to eliminate the reliance on parallel speech data, we propose a novel training method ComSpeech-ZS that solely utilizes S2TT and TTS data. It aligns representations in the latent space through contrastive learning, enabling the speech synthesis capability learned from the TTS data to generalize to S2ST in a zero-shot manner. Experimental results on the CVSS dataset show that when the parallel speech data is available, ComSpeech surpasses previous two-pass models like UnitY and Translatotron 2 in both translation quality and decoding speed. When there is no parallel speech data, ComSpeech-ZS lags behind \name by only 0.7 ASR-BLEU and outperforms the cascaded models.

Simultaneous translation models play a crucial role in facilitating communication. However, existing research primarily focuses on text-to-text or speech-to-text models, necessitating additional cascade components to achieve speech-to-speech translation. These pipeline methods suffer from error propagation and accumulate delays in each cascade component, resulting in reduced synchronization between the speaker and listener. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel non-autoregressive generation framework for simultaneous speech translation (NAST-S2X), which integrates speech-to-text and speech-to-speech tasks into a unified end-to-end framework. We develop a non-autoregressive decoder capable of concurrently generating multiple text or acoustic unit tokens upon receiving fixed-length speech chunks. The decoder can generate blank or repeated tokens and employ CTC decoding to dynamically adjust its latency. Experimental results show that NAST-S2X outperforms state-of-the-art models in both speech-to-text and speech-to-speech tasks. It achieves high-quality simultaneous interpretation within a delay of less than 3 seconds and provides a 28 times decoding speedup in offline generation.

Despite that, two main challenges persist in multilingual ASR: language interference and the incorporation of new languages without degrading the performance of the existing ones. This paper proposes LoRA-Whisper, which incorporates LoRA matrix into Whisper for multilingual ASR, effectively mitigating language interference. Furthermore, by leveraging LoRA and the similarities between languages, we can achieve better performance on new languages while upholding consistent performance on original ones. Experiments on a real-world task across eight languages demonstrate that our proposed LoRA-Whisper yields a relative gain of 18.5% and 23.0% over the baseline system for multilingual ASR and language expansion respectively.

The recent surge in research on LLM-based audio models provides fresh perspectives for tackling audio tasks. Given that LLM can flexibly ingest multiple inputs, we propose MaLa-ASR, an LLM-based ASR model that can integrate textual keywords extracted from presentation slides to improve recognition of conference content. MaLa-ASR yields average WERs of 9.4% and 11.7% on the L95 and S95 subsets of the SlideSpeech corpus, representing a significant relative WER drop of 27.9% and 44.7% over the baseline model reported in SlideSpeech. MaLa-ASR underscores LLM's strong performance in speech tasks and the capability to integrate auxiliary information conveniently. By adding keywords to the input prompt, the biased word error rate (B-WER) reduces relatively by 46.0% and 44.2%, establishing a new SOTA on this dataset.

Simultaneous speech-to-speech translation (Simul-S2ST, a.k.a streaming speech translation) outputs target speech while receiving streaming speech inputs, which is critical for real-time communication. Beyond accomplishing translation between speech, Simul-S2ST requires a policy to control the model to generate corresponding target speech at the opportune moment within speech inputs, thereby posing a double challenge of translation and policy. In this paper, we propose StreamSpeech, a direct Simul-S2ST model that jointly learns translation and simultaneous policy in a unified framework of multi-task learning. Adhering to a multi-task learning approach, StreamSpeech can perform offline and simultaneous speech recognition, speech translation and speech synthesis via an "All-in-One" seamless model. Experiments on CVSS benchmark demonstrate that StreamSpeech achieves state-of-the-art performance in both offline S2ST and Simul-S2ST tasks. Besides, StreamSpeech is able to present high-quality intermediate results (i.e., ASR or translation results) during simultaneous translation process, offering a more comprehensive real-time communication experience.

We introduce Seed-TTS, a family of large-scale autoregressive text-to-speech (TTS) models capable of generating speech that is virtually indistinguishable from human speech. Seed-TTS serves as a foundation model for speech generation and excels in speech in-context learning, achieving performance in speaker similarity and naturalness that matches ground truth human speech in both objective and subjective evaluations. With fine-tuning, we achieve even higher subjective scores across these metrics. Seed-TTS offers superior controllability over various speech attributes such as emotion and is capable of generating highly expressive and diverse speech for speakers in the wild. Furthermore, we propose a self-distillation method for speech factorization, as well as a reinforcement learning approach to enhance model robustness, speaker similarity, and controllability. We additionally present a non-autoregressive (NAR) variant of the Seed-TTS model, named $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$, which utilizes a fully diffusion-based architecture. Unlike previous NAR-based TTS systems, $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$ does not depend on pre-estimated phoneme durations and performs speech generation through end-to-end processing. We demonstrate that this variant achieves comparable performance to the language model-based variant and showcase its effectiveness in speech editing. With increasing density and heterogeneity in unlicensed wireless networks, traditional MAC protocols, such as carrier-sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) in Wi-Fi networks, are experiencing performance degradation. This is manifested in increased collisions and extended backoff times, leading to diminished spectrum efficiency and protocol coordination. Addressing these issues, this paper proposes a deep-learning-based MAC paradigm, dubbed DL-MAC, which leverages spectrum sensing data readily available from energy detection modules in wireless devices to achieve the MAC functionalities of channel access, rate adaptation and channel switch. First, we utilize DL-MAC to realize a joint design of channel access and rate adaptation. Subsequently, we integrate the capability of channel switch into DL-MAC, enhancing its functionality from single-channel to multi-channel operation. Specifically, the DL-MAC protocol incorporates a deep neural network (DNN) for channel selection and a recurrent neural network (RNN) for the joint design of channel access and rate adaptation. We conducted real-world data collection within the 2.4 GHz frequency band to validate the effectiveness of DL-MAC, and our experiments reveal that DL-MAC exhibits superior performance over traditional algorithms in both single and multi-channel environments and also outperforms single-function approaches in terms of overall performance. Additionally, the performance of DL-MAC remains robust, unaffected by channel switch overhead within the evaluated range.

The High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) represents a fourth-generation light source. This facility has made unprecedented advancements in accelerator technology, necessitating the development of new detectors to satisfy physical requirements such as single-photon resolution, large dynamic range, and high frame rates. Since 2016, the Institute of High Energy Physics has introduced the first user-experimental hybrid pixel detector, progressing to the fourth-generation million-pixel detector designed for challenging conditions, with the dual-threshold single-photon detector HEPS-Beijing PIXel (HEPS-BPIX) set as the next-generation target. HEPS-BPIX will employ the entirely new Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) BP40 for pixel information readout. Data flow will be managed and controlled through readout electronics based on a two-tier Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) system: the Front-End Electronics (FEE) and the Input-Output Board (IOB) handle the fan-out for 12 ASICs, and the u4FCP is tasked with processing serial data on high-speed links, transferring pixel-level data to the back-end RTM and uTCA chassis, or independently outputting through a network port, enabling remote control of the entire detector. The new HEPS-BPIX firmware has undergone a comprehensive redesign and update to meet the electronic characteristics of the new chip and to improve the overall performance of the detector. Speaker verification systems experience significant performance degradation when tasked with short-duration trial recordings. To address this challenge, a multi-scale feature fusion approach has been proposed to effectively capture speaker characteristics from short utterances. Constrained by the model's size, a robust backbone Enhanced Res2Net (ERes2Net) combining global and local feature fusion demonstrates sub-optimal performance in short-duration speaker verification. To further improve the short-duration feature extraction capability of ERes2Net, we expand the channel dimension within each stage. However, this modification also increases the number of model parameters and computational complexity. To alleviate this problem, we propose an improved ERes2NetV2 by pruning redundant structures, ultimately reducing both the model parameters and its computational cost. A range of experiments conducted on the VoxCeleb datasets exhibits the superiority of ERes2NetV2, which achieves EER of 0.61% for the full-duration trial, 0.98% for the 3s-duration trial, and 1.48% for the 2s-duration trial on VoxCeleb1-O, respectively.
