Graduates of the UBC Master of Health Leadership & Policy (MHLP) in Seniors Care are ready to step into a range of professional roles to lead and manage services that provide patient-centred seniors care in community and institutional contexts.

Our graduates stand out with their unique combination of skills. Over the course of their 12-month full-time or 24-month part-time postgraduate degree they have expanded their knowledge of seniors care through courses from UBC School of Nursing. They have also gained business and leadership skills through classes offered from UBC Sauder’s Robert H. Lee Graduate School.

This powerful interdisciplinary of education enables them to lead multidisciplinary teams and complex projects. Our graduates are strategic thinkers who thrive in fast-paced environments as they collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to contribute to the well-being of seniors.

A graduate of the MHLP in Seniors Care graduate has the multidisciplinary health-care expertise needed to address evolving seniors care needs within health care and community services. Collaborative team players, visionary leaders and technically adept, our graduates add value to your organization with their ability to:

  • Analyze, propose, and apply strategies that support the development of person-centered, evidence-based policies to support older people experiencing ageing health and associated illnesses.
  • Apply insights about the relationships between enacting philosophies of care and the broader socio-political-cultural contexts to leadership in seniors’ care, and seniors’ health across care settings.
  • Identify new directions needed in health and social policy development, and be able to critically examine how health professionals can add value and influence.
  • Manage strategic operational budgets, and be able to effectively communicate that information to, and engage with key stakeholders, including boards of directors, staff and community partners.
