Leading into the summer, I had applied and interviewed for a few different internship experiences which I ultimately turned down, agonizingly, because I didn't think they were the best match for my experience and my skill-set. Giving up an uninterrupted summer of research as a Ph.D. student requires a very worthwhile reason, which would simultaneously enhance my professional experience while providing a boon to my research--something I felt that the cards I had on the table didn't entirely provide at that moment in time. Choosing to wait and gamble on a last-minute call, I was fortunate enough to land a Planning and Controls internship at Shield AI, to work on a project that was molded entirely around my research experience. This proved to be the correct decision; as much as I gave in my own research knowledge, I received in an exposure to professional-grade software/tech practices and habits which will accompany me for the rest of my career. A yin-and-yang of research and industry, if you will. On a personal level, I met a great group of people who guided and pushed me when needed. I am grateful to Alex G. and Christina Wettersten for serving as my managers, and to everyone else who I was fortunate to cross paths with during my internship. I write this on the cusp of my return to Purdue for another year of research, refreshed and ready for more.

Amazing to be in Colombia this past week and see how much pride the Colombians had for their V-BAT program. The Commander of the National Navy of Colombia, Vice Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo Obregón, presided over the event with United States Southern Command representatives in attendance. Colombia is leading the way in UAS integration for South America, recognizing that products like the V-BAT expand aviation missions for a tiny fraction of the cost of large Group 5 drones and helicopter operations. Last week, we shared an update about successful live-virtual constructive (LVC) flights with Kratos Defense and Security Solutions MQM-178 Firejets, with one aircraft live-flying autonomously and another flying in a virtual environment.    But fun fact: LVC enables us to quickly scale and deploy our Hivemind AI pilot on any number of aircraft. Breaking New Ground in Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) Integration! Shield AI recently completed an LVC integration of the MQM-178 Firejet and our Hivemind AI Pilot. LVC is an innovative construct that links live platforms with platforms in virtual environments, enabling dynamic cross-domain interactions. A Kratos Defense and Security Solutions MQM-178 Firejet, equipped with Shield AI’s Hivemind Pilot, executed live autonomous flight operations while simultaneously teamed with a virtual Hivemind-piloted Firejet—showcasing the seamless integration of collaborative autonomy using a combination of live and virtual platforms. While LVC has been around for some time, this test series was unique in that it validated the exceptional quality of the Hivemind Pilot as a digital twin, with the live Firejet collaborating flawlessly with its virtual counterpart.
