Participants were triaged to the VAPAHCS Smoking Cessation, Diabetes, and Lipid Management Clinics as appropriate.

After using the electronic process, VAPAHCS was able to identify some significant benefits:
VAPAHCS staff revised the preoperative "time out" process in which the surgical team verifies the correct patient, procedure and surgical site, to incorporate the auto-generated electronic consent.
We then provide a summary of infections in OIF/OEF veterans treated in the polytrauma unit at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS), one of four VA polytrauma units in the country treating injured OIF/OEF veterans.
He was eventually stabilized and transferred to the intensive care unit at the VAPAHCS about 6 weeks after his initial injury.
Two weeks later, he was transferred to the polytrauma unit at VAPAHCS. His rehabilitation was uneventful except for the development of a urinary tract infection with an Enterococcus species that was successfully treated with ampicillin for 10 days.
A review of polytrauma cases at VAPAHCS is helpful in describing the infections being seen in this population, but the number of infections is small and may not represent other VA or outside healthcare centers.

We derived data for the current study from a record review of patients seen in the Optometry Polytrauma Inpatient Clinic (OPTIC) at VAPAHCS between its opening in December 2004 and November 2006.
We assessed the visual characteristics of OIF/OEF troops admitted to the VAPAHCS PRC.
We also wish to thank the staff of the VAPAHCS PRC for their cooperation and dedication.
