Coun Peter Butlin, portfolio holder for Transport and Planning at Warwickshire County Council, said: "This scheme will look to improve the connection between the main business and retail areas of the town centre, which are currently separated.

THE pounds 36.5million Rugby Western Relief Road has received the final go-ahead.

The new inquiry will reconsider Transport Secretary Alistair Darling's provisional decision in July 2004 to give the go-ahead for the northern section of the Rugby Western Relief Road only - from the A424 Avon Mill roundabout to the A428 Lawford Road.

The delays mean the pounds 32.5 million Rugby Western Relief Road is set to lose out on a slice of funding.

Money was also allocated for three major road schemes next year, with the Rugby Western Relief Road receiving pounds 1.86 million, pounds 1.6 million for the Nuneaton Development Project, and pounds 950,000 for the Bidford Bypass.
