Accreditation by the Commission for Accreditation for Parks and Recreation in 2014 and 2018, and also accredited by the IAPD/IPRA annually since 1999 and the Park District Risk Management Association from 2010 to the present.

"We are fortunate that we have a community, a city council, four different advisory boards that we facilitate, city management and staff all working towards providing a premier parks and recreation system with well-maintained facilities and outstanding programs," said Parks and Recreation Director Craig Dishman.

The Parks and Rec System Plan is being developed while the city struggles financially to maintain its present parks and recreation facilities.

In order to reflect their interest in leisure studies, many academic departments changed their names from parks and recreation to parks, recreation and leisure studies.

Parks and Recreation staff were striving for a 50 per cent target and were extremely pleased to see so many families embracing the new system.
