I am Professor of Semantic Systems at Alpen-Adria-Universit�t Klagenfurt, Austria. I currently serve as deputy head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (before 2021 known as Department of Applied Informatics), having served as head of department from 2019 to 2024. I also wear and wore a few other hats at the university, for example I head the doctoral advisory board for the doctoral degree in technical sciences, am a member of the senate 2022-2025, was a member of the equal opportunities working group 2018-2022.
I also serve as treasurer for the Austrian Society for Artificial Intelligence (ASAI) and the Web Reasoning and Rule Systems Association (RRA).
I am also a Privatdozent at the Faculty of Informatics of the Vienna University of Technology.
From September 2013 to March 2018 I was Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the School of Computing and Engineering at the University of Huddersfield. I also served as Director of Graduate Education at the same School, being responsible for more than 250 postgraduate research students (working on their PhDs and Masters by Research degrees).
I was an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Calabria from December 2006 to September 2018 (on leave from September 2013 onwards).
I am a co-founder of the company DLVSYSTEM s.r.l., a spin-off of the University of Calabria.
