Leigh Conroy will be looking for an encore when Smash returns in January. Vulture has learned that Bernadette Peters is back as Ivy’s mom and expected to begin filming — and singing! — shortly. Executive producer Josh Safran refused to part with any other details about her return, which happens midway through season two, but when we last saw the show’s own Mama Rose, she was telling Ivy, Dammit, child, you get that Marilyn role or perish! (more or less) and then Ivy didn’t get the role and of course had to chug a bottle of pills while Karen took her bows on opening night.
So, to keep things straight, we’re getting Bernadette, J.Hud, Jeremy Jordan, Sean Hayes, no scarves … Could season two get any better?
