New Geomedia project focuses on historical video games

Peter Wikström, docent in English at Karlstad University, is working together with Geomedia to develop project applications in collaboration with Embracer Games Archive in Karlstad.
    – The project focuses on material objects related to historical video games, such as covers, packaging, manuals and the design of discs and cartridges.

    – The approach we are using in the research project is multimodal discourse analysis, says Peter Wikström. We will select objects from Embracer’s massive archive, which will then be analysed in case studies with different approaches and research questions.

The project covers various time periods and types of games to contribute to knowledge about the significance of material objects, which play a particularly important role when it comes to historical games.

    – It has been two days filled with fascinating presentations from our doctoral students and many fruitful discussions about the graduate school’s collaboration and development opportunities, says Jörgen Samuelsson, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Graduate School. We invited representatives from the research groups DAMI, Pro2Be, and Mirai as well as the new industrial graduate school M3C, and we see many opportunities for even broader cooperation. Kau-släppet: a new spring tradition

Following last year’s success, the race Kausläppet has now become something of a tradition as part of the Walpurgis Night (Valborg) celebrations at Karlstad University. Last year, close to 100 people took part in the race.
    – We are hoping for at least 200 this year, says Felix Edrud.

He and Ebba Pettersson are in their second year of the Sports and Health Coaching Programme. As part of the programme, they are now doing five weeks of practical training by planning and organising Kausläppet, together with the Student Health Services.

    – It’s a great way to spend our practical placement period, as it is an activity that creates community and offers a sober alternative around Walpurgis Night, says Ebba Pettersson.

Research on Extended Lifespan of Trucks

How can business models extend the lifespan of trucks and make them circular? What requirements do different stakeholders have, and how are business models, service design, and product design affected? These questions are the focus of the research project Re:Value – a collaboration between industry and academia.

For future circular offerings to be accepted in the transport industry, they must meet the industry's challenges and expectations. Within the framework of Re:Value, researchers at the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University will develop new knowledge about future customers' and users' needs and requirements in the field.
