Services:

Hospital provides the following services:

  1. Emergency services
  2. Out patient,
  3. Inpatient services
  4. Preventive and promotive services
  5. Rehabilitative services
  6. Special Clinics
  7. MERU(Medical Education & Research Unit)

Emergency services: Emergency service is providing 24 hours emergency service for emergency cases; this includes emergency treatment, surgery, laboratory and other diagnostic and pharmacy services.

Out patient service

This service will be provided on all working days from 9.00 AM to 3.00 PM. This service includes OPD consultations, laboratory and diagnostics and pharmacy services. (Note: All laboratory diagnostic and drugs will be provided on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only)

OPD Laboratory Services:

Laboratory remains open from 9.00 AM to 3.00 PM however sample collection counters will be open from 6.30 AM till 12.00 noon and reports will be provided after four hours on the same day or on the next day. Special laboratory tests may require few days to get the results. Report during working hours will be dispatched from the laboratory report collecting counter and after working hours it will be available from the laboratory. Blood bank services will be available 24 hours a week.

OPD Radio diagnostic Services:
Routine X-rays will be done daily from 9.00 AM to 2.45 PM and report will be available the next day. Special X-Rays like IVU, contrast studies will only be done on appointment basis.

Routine Ultrasound will be done only on prior appointment and appointment will be given from the ultrasound reception.

OPD CT/MRI: All routine CT/MRI will be done only on prior appointment. The appointment will be given from the CT/MRI reception counter.

(Note: Some of the laboratory and diagnostic tests needs special preparations which will be provided by the concerned doctors or from diagnostic units)

Some of the Investigative procedures done as out patient are, Endoscopy and colonoscopy under surgical department, colposcopy under Obstetric and gynecology and Echocardiography under medicine department. These procedures are done on the appointment given by the respective specialists.

Special Clinics:

Special clinics like Diabetes and renal clinics are held on specific days where patients suffering from diabetes or renal disease are given advices and treatment.

Diet and Life style modification Clinic: This clinic provides dietary advices to both in patient and outpatients based on the patient’s need. Dietary advices are given for diabetic, Kidney patients, weight reduction and special dietary advice to indoor patients.

Community Health Services

The community health department provides Preventive services in the hospital as well as in the community through out reach clinics. The services includes child hood immunization, family planning, Ante-natal and post natal check up and also health education on health promotion and disease prevention. There is also separate unit for counseling on HIV/AIDs and TB treatment.

The Psychiatric Unit also provides counseling on alcohol and drug dependence.

  • Rehabilitative Services: The Physiotherapy unit is equipped with all equipments for providing rehabilitation. There are OPD, Indoor and Pediatric physiotherapy services.

OPD Registration

OPD registration opens at 8.30 AM on all working days and closes by 2.45 PM; patient has to report to the registration counter and should inform the receptionist about their sickness and which specialties that they want to consult. Based on the patient’s problem the receptionist will issue token number showing the chamber number the patient should go.

All new cases will be sent to the filter clinic and old cases for follow up will be directed to respective specialties.

Information counter: This counter will provide the patient information about the doctors, and other services.

Indoor services:

All indoor facilities will be housed in the new hospital buildings. The indoor facilities include General In-patient ward in all specialties, Private cabins, Burn ward, Intensive care units (Adults/Pediatrics), Dialysis unit, Indoor physiotherapy and Operation rooms.

Admission and Discharge of patients in the wards are based on the recommendation of the treating doctors. In patients are provided daily evaluation by the treating specialist, Round the clock nursing services, medicines, dietary advice based on energy consumption and daily calorie requirement and Physiotherapy. Three meals, including seasonal fruits, morning and evening tea are provided every day, special diet are provided for patients who need them as per the advice of the dieticians.

Patient attendant: Only one attendant is allowed per patient, how ever if patient is serious and needs more attendant additional one attendant will be allowed on the recommendation of the ward in-charge.

On admission all patients /attendants are required to read and sign on the admission rules and regulations.

Visitors will be allowed during the visiting hours only.

Private Cabins: Cabins are allotted on first come first basis depending on the availability of the cabins, Patient has to book the cabins in advance with the Hospital Administrative Officer, and once the cabin is allotted the patient party has to deposit certain advance amount, which will be adjusted and excess will be refunded at the time of discharge. Patient has to clear all the cabin charges before discharge.

Patient/party will be accountable for any loss or damage to the hospital property.

Staff or hospital will not be responsible for any loss or damage of the patient’s belongings or any valuables.

Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) not only act as a hub to treat ailments but it is also a center for producing competent healthcare professionals who will be able to serve throughout the country. Moreover, JDWNRH as a teaching hospital mandates to have medical education unit/division to coordinate medical education program including pedagogy training, continuing professional development and research activities as per “Teaching Hospital Regulation, 2014”. Therefore, Medical Education and Research Unit (MERU) was instituted in March 2020 to serve as a center for coordinating and facilitating medical education and research to enable delivery of quality healthcare services.
